2. / 1. / Yes even though they are related we feel that the hair and aethetics industry has grown to the point of needing its own curriculum.
2. / This allows more emphasis to be put on Hairstyling/Aesthetics. The other way was very broad, and it better service the students needs for more specific areas
3. / hairstyling and nursing are two different fields. I myself would feel that I would be doing the students justice teaching nursing (PSW)
4. / Removing the health components from our BBT will be beneficial for OYAP opportunities in the new curicullum
5. / It will be more beneficial to the program for OYAP opportunities having the health component removed from our BBT.
6. / Not many schools seem willing to create a hairstyling/aesthetics classroom, perhaps due to expense. If we continue have a broad based curriculum then it may entice schools to create and maintain Health and Personal Services course offerings.
7. / I believe it will service the students better in that it will address issues specific to hairstyling and aesthetics. However, hairstyling and/or aesthetics are a part of the 'personal service' sector and students should be exposed to all services offered in the field. Hence, the broader based Health and Personal Services BBT is warrented. The effects of aesthetic services, and to a lesser degree hairstyling services, promote health and well being and should be duely acknowlegded. Again, with this in mind,it may be wise to keep it a part of Health and Personal Services BBT.
8. / Students likely will not have time to chose both programs independently, therefore will be limited to gaining insight into possible career paths associated with both Health Care / Hairstyling and Aesthetics. Many schools don't offer Health Care programs and now very little exposure will be put on those very career options that will very much be in great demand. It is unfortunate that they have been separated esp in a BBT course
9. / It all relates very well, first aid = essential to any career, children and geriatrics = life skills, actaully teaches different personalities and how to relate to them. Nutrition = we are what we it, nutrition effects our skin, nails and hair
10. / The revised course is a long awaited improvement. The biggest problem that we face is still evident. There is no prerequisite for grade 11(Even a strong suggestion would be better). Alot of the grade 10 curriculum will have to be repeated in grade 11 for students who have not taken the grade 10 course. This means some students will have to sit through weeks of review while others without any knowledge catch up.I would also be interested to know if unqualified teachers would still be allowed to teach the grade 10 Hairstyling course now that it is all Hairstyling and Aesthetics even if they do not possess a trade license..
7. / 1. / Course descriptor does not really do the program justice, as much emphasis in the course is on Service Delivery, Enterprising Skills, Working Environment, Enviromental Stewartship, Business Principles, Wellness, etc, which could apply to many professions. Could a possible descriptor be Professional "Service" Industries?????
2. / We must use AND/OR hairstyling and aesthetics because some schools focus on only one of these practices depending on teacher skill level and class environment.
3. / Course descriptions/strands etc should all be attached with lesson/day plans to ensure everyone at every school are on the same page - someone in grade 10 cosmo in Ontario could transfer to ThunderBay and not have to repeat a thing. Never mind ThunderBay - locally. There should be a pre-req - how can a student take grade 12 - business, advanced techniques etc without having the basics???? I have a class of 24 grade 11 and only 6 have taken grade 10 - that really means only 6 understand the importance of bacteria an sanitation, only 6 know about the basics of mannequin care, how the tap/sink and chairs work - the list goes on and on ....grade 11 they should be learning about haircuts and already have the blow dry basic
16. / 1. / Not familiar with the Ontario Skills Passport so we were not able to accuratly comment on question B 11.
2. / Question #9 It will depend on the class dynamics. A typical class should be able to complete the curriculum expectations, however, there are sometimes exceptions.
3. / If Hairstyling/Aesthetics is to stand alone, then this seems like a reasonable curriculum.
4. / Essential skills should also have more emphasis in Grade 12, as in Gr 11.
5. / Separate the two concepts of Hairstyling and/or Aesthetics!!!! The instructor can then place the focus on whichever program fits their practices best!
6. / I am strongly in approval of the suggested changes to this course.
7. / A lot of money is always being spent on rewriting - next year new people - new ideas - save money keep what we have it works other than many teachers not wanting to teach the health components Could that be because they are from industry?? Other subject area teachers teach all sorts of subjects!!!! Try elementary for a while.
8. / The revised course is a long awaited improvement. The biggest problem that we face is still evident. There is no prerquisite for grade 11(Even a strong suggestion in the course calendar might help). Alot of the grade 10 curriculum will have to be repeated in grade 11 for students who have not taken the grade 10 course. This means some students will have to sit through weeks of review while others without any knowledge catch up.The section on the environment might be difficult to teach as there is no information in our text book on this issue.Personally this is a subject that I would find difficult to teach as it is very scientific and something that was not covered in my hairstylist training.
23. / 1. / Very good examples!
2. / same
34. / 1. / Prerequisite for grade 11 course should be grade 10
2. / We think the Grade 11 & 12 curriculum is very clear and much improved.
3. / Perhaps adding more soft skills and essentails to the Gr 12 curriculum, just like in the Gr 11, would help to emphasize that these skills must be attained for success and need to life long acquistions to strive for
4. / I am looking forward to the approval of these suggested changes. I feel the proposed revisions are very clear and and makes perfect sence to me to implement in my classroom. Jay Claxton AMSS
5. / If there can be a double credit time slot, I feel as a professional out of Indusrty myself, that we can achieve was can be expected for the grade 12's entering the workplace and possibly giving them more of a real feel of how idustry really runs.
6. / Pass port to safety is great but that does not mean we all have computers to do so - (yes we can send it home) Apprenticeship = maybe should be a different course - grade 12 - apprenticship and grade 12 - non-apprenticiship. I personally think the profiles and outlines we have now work well!!
7. / In the grade 11 and 12 curriculum it states that there are two possible areas of emphasis, aesthetics and hairstyling. Most teachers holding a hairstyling license are not trained aestheticians and vice versa. WOuld a trained aesthetican teach an advanced hairstyling course without a trade license?
