TEKS / Objectives / Activities
4.2D (interpret patterns)
4.8 B (role of Sun)
4.8 C(Moon, tides, seasons) / Students will:
· Analyze data to identify sequences and predict patterns of the Moon over time.
· Construct a moon-Earth model where they take the position of an Earth bound observer. Use a model to determine how and in what order the phases of the moon occurs.
· Discover how the sun’s rays strike the Earth at different times of the year.
· View weather maps and learn symbols for air masses & fronts using a map key. / Lab – Oreo Moon Phases
Students will create a model from Oreos to reinforce their knowledge of the order of Moon phases and the Moon’s revolution around Earth.
Lab – Pasta Parallels
Students will discover the relationship between the tilt of the Earth and the distribution of the sun’s rays and relate this to why we have seasons.
