Support Worker at Ladies Centre located outside Ashford, Co. Wicklow

About us and about the job:

Teen Challenge Ireland adopts a Christian faith-based solution to drug, alcohol and other life-controlling problems. We endeavour, by applying a biblical approach, to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically-well, and spiritually-alive. We also facilitate General Practitioner, other medical and other professional inputs to students on our programme. In 2003, we opened a women’s residential facility in Co. Kildare.In mid 2008, we added a men’s centre in Co. Wicklow. The combined operations currently provide circa 46 beds about 25 of them in the men’s centre, 11 at the ladies centre and 10 in re-entry houses . The purpose of this job is to provide day-to-day care support and leadership to our residential female students during recovery from life controlling issues and facilitating their re-entry to society as productive members.The context of this jobis to work as part of the Teen Challenge Ireland team in accordance with the ethos and values of the organisation and within any prevailing service agreements with the HSE, Local Drugs Task Force or other relevant State development or regulatory agencies.

The person we re looking forwill need to demonstrate that he / she:

  • Has a vocational calling to this work;
  • Has a realistic appreciation of students’ life-situations; an understanding and practical knowledge of addictive problems and their effects;
  • Is an individual of personal and spiritual maturity who has an understanding of and commitment to Christian faith-based recovery and the flexibility to adapt to Teen Challenge’s operating model;
  • Is a proactive and energetic team player, that is capable of operating as part of a team and of giving and taking direction;
  • Has good interpersonal skills and is capable of leading and managing students who are struggling with addiction;
  • Has good listening, verbal and writing skills and is computer literate;
  • Is capable of interacting in a professional mannerwith supporters from the Christian community as well as with secular organisations, donors, funding agencies, public servants and private sector professionals, respectful of the fact that their worldviews may / may not coincide with his / her own or that of Teen Challenge.
  • Has a full clean driving licence for category “B”. Category “D1” and/or “D” would be desirable but not essential.

Required Experience and Qualifications of Support Worker:

Ideally applicants will have substantive previous experience of working with people suffering from addiction and possibly homelessness.While a heartfelt vocational calling to work within a Christian ethos is paramount, a relevant qualification would be advantageous though not essential.
