Position Description

Link Community Charter School’s Technology Teacher is the instructional leader in the area of technology and computer literacy. By helping to develop school wide technology goals and plans, teaching students directly, supporting colleagues throughout the school, the Technology Teacher ensures that students possess the necessary 21st century, college and career readiness skills; and are prepared for life long success.

Specific Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable and fluent in trends in the curricular area(s) to be taught.
  • Be knowledgeable and fluent in Common Core State Standards and New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards as they relate to curricular area(s) to be taught. To be accountable for students’ mastery of such academic standards.
  • Adhere, with some flexibility, to Link’s curriculum/scope and sequence for the area(s) to be taught. Be knowledgeable about Link’s school wide curriculum and meet school wide instructional expectations.
  • Embrace and adhere to Link Community Charter School’s educational philosophy and annual objectives
  • Plan intensely and thoughtfully to create student-centered lessons that are standards based, meeting learning objectives and reinforcing skills and content knowledge taught throughout the school’s curriculum.
  • Implement developed lessons and teach core or co-curricular, enrichment, and tutoring classes as scheduled in a pedagogically appropriate and results oriented manner.
  • Submit unit plans and daily lesson plans, as requested.
  • Budget class time effectively.
  • Implement an appropriately focused and balanced curriculum for each child in your particular subject area. Effectively bridge the academic gap for each student, meeting each where s/he is and focusing on growth so that learning targets are met.
  • Address the different learning styles of your students by using a variety of teaching methodologies and strategies which address the students’ multiple intelligences and varied level of competency.
  • Plan with other subject area teacher to create interdisciplinary units of study.
  • Prepare and use a variety of measures to evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis. To use assessment data to regularly refine instruction.
  • Prepare students for all required assessments.
  • Be a professional and to devote the necessary time and energy required to succeed at the craft of teaching, with openness to innovative approaches to teaching. Actively engage in professional development, including the program at Link Community Charter School.
  • Assist in the on-going development of your the technology department’s curriculum and plan regularly with the Principal and Dean of Curriculum and Student Outcomes.
  • Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students with families, support staff, specialty teachers, and administrators.
  • Actively and effectively communicate with parents of students in your classesthe technology class on a regular basis, and to maintain contact logs of these contacts. To respond to parent concerns effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Build a positive classroom culture that supports joy[SM1], active learning and the core values. To be responsible for and to maintain a structured, well managed classroom with clear policies and fair, consistently applied discipline.
  • Encourage students’ positive interactions with other students and adults. To value and promote peaceful conflict resolution and creative and authentic problem solving.
  • Provide a written progress report and report card for each child, with appropriate and meaningful comments. To provide information on a child’s development whenever needed during the course of a year.
  • Maintain a portfolio of all major student work in youreach technology classes. To submit your the teacher grade book for examination by the administration. To regularly submit homework test/quiz/project assignments and graded student samples for review when requested by the administration.
  • Decorate the classroom and bulletin boards appropriately, highlighting student work, skills and content taught and the school’s core beliefs and values. To meet the school’s goals in building a strong and rich vocabulary, including creating and maintaining a word wall. To keep classrooms organized, neat and presentable.
  • Communicate regularly with the Principal and share any academic or personal difficulties that arise with students, as well as any unusual changes in the academic program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Head of School.

School Wide Technology Leadership

  • Keep apprised of changes in the technologies available and directions of future technology development in education.
  • Model and share best practices, and inspire high level integration of technology to support student learning and effective instruction.
  • Help to select and maintain appropriate digital resources for students and teachers.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the School Technology Plan.
  • Identify technology leaders within the school and technology-oriented leaders in each academic discipline or grade level.
  • Develop contacts with other educational institutions to support the dissemination of effective policies and ideas for use of technology in the educational process.
  • Develop, evaluate and disseminate technology-related information throughout the school community.
  • Help the school to obtain outside funding by participating in grant planning andproposal writing.
  • Actively support PARCC readiness.

Support of Faculty

  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with Link faculty to coordinate relationship between school curriculum and technology skills.
  • Assist with effective professional development in regards to technology integration and usage for faculty, staff and administration, including designing and developing workshops.
  • Provide support and assistance to all teachers with the preparation of resource rich lessons and interactive technology activities for students.

Technology Support

  • Assist faculty and staff in dealing with minor technical issues in order to maintain a positive attitude among educators about use of technologies and avoid frustrations and fear of technologies by those teachers unfamiliar with them. Perform simple maintenance and trouble-shooting procedures on equipment for efficient use of maintenance funds.
  • Maintain equipment in the Computer Lab in good working order and communicate with outside consultant, Chief Operating Officer, and Principal regarding technology needs.
  • Along with the technology consultant and COO maintain an accurate inventory of computers and technology equipment.

School Life Responsibilities

  • Continually reinforce the school’s Core Values, expectations and school spirit, first and foremost by modeling such values and then teaching them to our students.
  • Perform duties as assigned: lunch, hallway monitoring, exam proctoring, etc.
  • Lead or actively support school-wide events, including September pot luck event, Back to School Night, graduation, awards assemblies, Holiday Celebration, Grandparents’ Day/Black History Month Celebration, Student Professional Development Program, Multicultural Program, Field Day, Spirit Week, student dances, 8th grade end of year events. Sign-up will occur in August.
  • Plan, prepare for, and supervise an elective during at least one of the academic quarters.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Head of School.

Meetings and Professional Development

  • Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
  • Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.
  • Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in and enthusiasm for the subject(s) to be taught.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, urban school experience preferred.
  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and Technology Endorsement or eligibility (Alternate Route candidates will be considered)
  • Excellent knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
  • Understands legal and ethical issues as they apply to responsible and acceptable use of the Internet and other resources.
  • Successful teaching experience in a classroom setting with proven track record of high student achievement and use of data in making instructional choices. Demonstrated ability to evaluate student assessments and a willingness to be held accountable for student results .
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage the interest of young people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of children and to work well with parents .
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, bringing a positive attitude, strong personal drive and motivation, joy, flexibility and a sense of humor.
  • Required criminal history check.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Reporting, Supervision, Working Relationships and Evaluation

The Technology Teacher report directly to and is supervised by the Principal. The Technology Teacher supervises pupils, and when assigned, student teachers and classroom aides. The Technology Teacher has working relationships with all members of the faculty, staff and administration in the school. The Technology Teacher will take part in an end of year school wide/program evaluation with the Principal, gathering information from all stakeholders and providing input for a comprehensive appraisal of the academic program. The Technology Teacher will be evaluated with the Stronge Evaluation System, as approved by the Link Community Charter School’s Board of Trustees, and in accordance with State statutes and regulations, Board policies, and administrative directives.

Terms of Employment

The Technology Teacher is a teacher, and as such is contracted for the academic year, from late August through June encompassing opening and closing meetings. Teachers receive salary and benefits as approved by the Link Community Charter School’s Board of Trustees.
