Program/Area Purpose / Patricia Giles Centre’s (PGC) reputation is driven by our ability to provide high quality sustainable services to clients accessing our programs and services.
In addition to the provision of accommodation and housing services, the area ensures timely and effective provision of advocacy, referral information and support to women and their children seeking relief from the impact of domestic violence.
The Counselling team provide specialist interventions and support to women and dependent children through individual and group counselling and community education activities.
Role Purpose and Outcomes / The Team Leader - Clinical Services is responsible for leading and managing a team of counsellors who provide specialist services to women and dependent children seeking relief from the impact of domestic violence.
The Team Leader is also responsible for the ongoing development of this team and service model and for maintaining collaborative partnerships
with key services and stakeholders.
The Team Leader – Clinical Services will ensure standards are met, evidence based practice is implemented, and that service remains responsive to the needs of the community and delivers quality of care for clients of the Patricia Giles Centre.
The role in collaboration with Director, Programs and Services facilitates the delivery of a professional domestic violence service by providing appropriate levels of support and supervision to counselling and advocacy staff.
This position will also provide effective, high quality, culturally sensitive individual counselling and group programs for adults and/or dependent children/adolescents who have experienced trauma through family and domestic violence.
Key outcomes include:
Team Leadership
·  Coordinates the daily activities of the Counselling team.
·  Ensures that team members are well supported in their roles by providing regular line management supervision.
·  Works in conjunction with the Director to provide effective leadership, coaching, guidance and development to team members.
·  Support staff development by working with individuals and the team to identify training needs and facilitate appropriate training.
·  Deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, clinical supervision to staff.
·  In collaboration with the Director, oversees the student and volunteer (counselling/clinical) placement programs.
Service Delivery
·  Practices in accordance with the ethical and professional guidelines of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
·  Delivers evidence based methods to guide the selection and implementation of assessments and intervention strategies for clients and when applicable their families, of the Organisation.
·  Maintains own clinical caseload.
·  Coordinate team participation in prevention and community development activities as directed.
·  Empowers clients and families to have input into service planning.
·  Has a strong understanding of a variety of therapy/clinical approaches and service options.
·  Provide intervention in a range of contexts including refuge, home, school and community.
Communication and Relationship Management
·  Build, foster and maintain good community relationships to assist service users in accessing wider community supports. Maintain knowledge base of contemporary community practice and service delivery.
·  Work collaboratively as a member of a team across the organisation to ensure consistency and excellence in service. Includes being an active contributor and participator working within a transdisciplinary team.
·  Actively contribute to staff meetings, clinical supervision, training sessions and ongoing professional development, participate in agency planning and team building workshops.
·  Consult with a range of supports and contacts including government, agencies, community services and schools.
Representation and Networking
·  Develop and maintain a working knowledge of family and domestic violence and other relevant agencies/services; represent and advocate on behalf of clients where necessary.
·  Actively liaise with relevant persons and agencies where appropriate; attend interagency networking groups as directed.
Governance and Reporting
·  Provide reports as required using the appropriate PGC systems.
·  Complies with all relevant internal and external policies and procedures.
·  Ensure client specific minimum reporting standards are met (individual reviews, individual action plans, reports, progress notes).
·  Maintain database records and statistics within specified timeframes.
·  Keeps and maintains appropriate records, statistics and files in accordance with established procedures.
·  Maintains registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia - Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - (AHPRA).
·  Supports the development of clinical/practice policies and procedures.
·  Implements, monitors and reviews clinical/practice policies and procedures to ensure best practice standards.

Position Requirements / Competencies
Qualifications/Registration - Essential
·  Possess a 4 Year Psychology Degree
·  Full and Current Registration as a psychologist with the Australian ealHHealth Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
·  Eligible for a Medicare Provider Number
Qualifications/Registration – Desirable
·  Possesses a post-graduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychology (e.g. Masters or Doctorate)
·  Has endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist with AHPRA
Clinical Expertise
·  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in counselling and support as it relates to adults, children/adolescents who have experienced family violence and/or trauma, particularly those with complex needs including clients with Positive Behaviour Support needs.
·  Strong clinical skills and knowledge base of clinical care standards in treatment of adults, children and young people, including those affected by multiple issues including trauma, neglect, abuse and family violence.
·  Demonstrated clinical supervision and program coordination experience.
Service Delivery and Assessments
·  Demonstrated analytical and problem solving and clinical assessment skills, with the ability to understand what is important to the service user to achieve outcomes relevant to psychology.
·  Ability to adapt promptly to caning priorities of individual and family’s needs and work environment.
·  Experience in working with culturally diverse, complex, coerced and co-morbid treatment populations.
Leadership, Communication and Values
·  Demonstrated ability to develop staff, foster teamwork and effectively work as a team member whilst providing leadership.
·  Demonstrated and well-developed counselling and clinical supervision skills.
·  Demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to relate to service users and families on an individual level, whilst displaying behaviours, attitudes and values consistent with the organisation’s expressed values.
·  Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, in partnership with clients, families, support workers and members of the wider community
·  Demonstrated knowledge and use of networks, including the ability to develop close working relationships with other organisations.
·  Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, delivering a professional service.
Other
·  Knowledge of, and commitment to, contemporary models of service delivery such as Family/Person centred practice, Positive Behaviour Support, Collaborative Consultation and Community participation.
