TEAM CAPTAIN’S MEETING:
All captain’s meetings will be held online through IMLeagues. It is MANDATORY for all captains to take the online quiz and score 80% in order to register your team. The quiz will contain sports specific questions as well as general Intramural Sport policies.
ENTRY FEE:
In addition to signing your team up on IMLeagues during the specific registration period, a team member must stop at the front desk of the Koury Recreation Center and pay your $20 team fee. This fee will be reimbursed in full at the end of the season unless you forfeit any games throughout the league. Each team forfeit is $10 dollars and if you forfeit twice during the season you will be taken out of the league and will forfeit your team fee.
LEAGUE SCHEDULES:
Schedules for league play and playoffs will be done through IMLeagues. Please go to the Elon Intramural Sports website at http://www.elon.edu/e-web/students/campus_recreation/Intramurals/ and click on the IMLeagues logo to access the IMLeagues website.
FORFEIT/DEFAULT POLICY:
If you are unable to compete in a contest, please notify the Intramural office by emails by noon the day of your contest to avoid a forfeit fee. If you do not notify in the allotted time or you do not show up for the contest, your team will be charged a forfeit fee of $10.

GENERAL PROCEDURES:
Please refer to the Intramural Sports Handbook for all policies and procedures related to intramural contests. The handbook can be found under the Intramural program on the Campus Recreation website.
- Each participant must present a valid Phoenix card to the intramural staff at every contest. No other form of I.D. will be accepted.
- All participants must be on the team roster. No participant may play on two teams in the same league or a forfeit will be charged to the second team he/she participated on. Roster additions are only allowed during the regular season and cannot be made for post-season contests.
- Each participant must wear appropriate apparel and non-marking athletic footwear.
- Team jerseys are provided. Participants must wear a sleeved shirt underneath (no cut-offs).
- First aid treatment is typically, but not always, available during intramural contests. Any bleeding must be stopped and cleaned up before participant can re-enter the contest.
- All visible jewelry, watches, and bracelets must be removed or covered legally prior to participation.
RULES:
- PARTICIPATION:
- Teams will consist of five players but all games may start with four players to prevent a forfeit
(There will be four players (or 3) in the field and one as the goal keeper.)
- If a team is reduced to less than the minimum amount of players at any time during the contest, a default will result and the game will be over.
- GAME SETUP:
- Games will start at mid-court with a pass, similar to the start of soccer.
- Goals are scored when the ball completely crosses the goal line in air.
- Shots that hit the floor before crossing the goal line do not count as a goal.
- A game consists of two halves that are 12 minutes each. Halftime will be 3 minutes.
- The clock will run continuously during the game, except for team and official timeouts.
- Each team has 2 timeouts per game.
- Overtime Rules (post season only, no overtime in regular season)
- First OT Period
- An additional period of 3 minutes will be played. Once the period is complete, the team who scored the most in that time wins the contest.
- Second OT Period
- A Shootout will occur.
- Each team will be allowed 5 shots by the 5 players that were on the court during the last OT Period. Shots will be taken from the Penalty Shot area.
- Third OT Period
- A Shootout will occur.
- Each team will select a player to shoot and the first team to score without a matching goal from the opponent wins. If there are matching goals, then each team will select two different players until a winner is determined.
- No additional timeouts will be given for overtime.
- Games will be played on a basketball court using the standard basketball boundary lines.
- Goalkeeper Box consists of the space inside the 3-point arch (high school).
- Penalty Shot Area will take place at the top of the 3-point arch (high school).
- REGULATIONS/VIOLATIONS
- Holding the Ball (Violation): A player may not hold the ball for more than 5 seconds without attempting a shot at that goal or passing the ball.
- Passing (Violation): Teams have a maximum of 5 passes per possession. After the 5th pass, a shot at the goal must be taken. A player cannot pass to his or herself. Unless a shot is attempted, another legal player must touch the ball before a player can touch it for the second time.
- Dribbling (Violation): A player must dribble or pass in order to move with the ball. Walking with the ball is a violation, similar to basketball.
- Possession of the Ball (Violation) Players may not possess the ball for more than 5 seconds. A pass or shot must be taken at 5 seconds.
- Loose Balls (Violation) Field players may not dive for loose balls. Field players may not touch the ball with any part of the body below the knees. Goalkeepers can dive for loose balls within the goalkeeper area, outside of the goalkeeper area they must adhere to all field restrictions. Goalkeepers may kick save within the goalkeeper area, outside of the goalkeeper area they must adhere to all field restrictions.
- Out of Bounds (Violation)Any area outside of the standard basketball boundary lines. The roof including lights, rafters, curtains, cables or fans.
- Contact (Foul) A player cannot use his or her body to obstruct an opponent. Pushing, holding and/or hitting is not permitted. Similar to basketball and/or soccer.
- If contact occurs on a shot: If the shot goes in, play will resume at mid-court. If the shot is missed, the shooter will take a penalty shot.
- Goalkeeper Area (Foul/Violation): Field players must shoot from outside the goalkeeper area (3 point arc high school). Field players (offensive or defensive) may not enter the goalkeeper area unless their momentum carries them into the area. If this occurs, the player must immediately leave the area in the direction in which they entered.
- Field players may jump from behind the line into the goalkeeper area to make a shot as long as the ball is released prior to landing.
- If a defensive player steps into the goalkeeper area to stop play, the official can rule “advantage” and let the play continue.
- If a defensive player is in the goal area and makes contact with the ball or offensive player while shooting, then a penalty shot will be awarded.
- Goalkeepers (Violation): Goalkeepers are not allowed to leave the goalkeeper area. Teams cannot pull their goalkeeper. Goalkeepers are not allowed to touch the ball outside of the goalkeeper area while in the goalkeeper area. Goalkeepers may receive a pass from a field player while in the goalkeeper area, it will count as a team pass.
- Free Throws/Passes
- Free Throws/Passes will be awarded when a violation or non-shooting foul occurs.
- Free Throws/Passes will be taken immediately from the spot of the violation
- The defending player must remain 5 feet from the passer.
- The free throw/pass must occur within 5 seconds of receiving the ball.
- Free Throws/Passes do not count as 1 of the 5 passes per possession.
- If a non-shooting foul occurs, the number of passes taken during that possession will reset after the Free Throw/Pass.
- Penalty Shots
- During a penalty shot, the player must maintain one foot on the arch. If that foot moves or is lifted the shot will not count. The opposite foot can move freely.
- Goalkeeper must maintain 5 feet of distance from the shooter.
- Play will be live after the shot
- EQUIPMENT/SPORTSMANSHIP:
- All participants must wear athletic footwear during games. No boots, hard soles, or metal cleats
- Each team shall designate a captain to act as the team spokesperson and make decisions. Only the captain may speak with Intramural staff if an issue arises within game play
- Team captains are responsible for the conduct of his/her teammates, spectators, and managers/coaches. Team representatives are subject to sanctions list in the Elon Intramural Sports Participants Guide.
- Any player may be warned and/or ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct
- If any participant is caught using another individuals name, the entire team will forfeit the game
- All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner towards fellow participants and all Intramural programming staff.
- Under no circumstances can any individual consume alcohol or drugs or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at any time while they are participating in this league
- Participants who are under the influence of alcohol/drugs or consume alcohol/drugs while playing will be removed from the league and may face repercussions from Campus Recreation and/or the Office of Student Conduct.
