Welcome! Below you will find a description of what to expect this school year. Please discuss this with your parents/guardians and both you and your parents/guardians should sign below and return the bottom part of page 2 by August 17, 2017 for a grade. This year will prove to be exciting and challenging. I look forward to working with all of you. Please feel free to ask me any questions.
Course Description:Teaching as a Profession I (TAP I) is an intermediate course for students interested in learning more about becoming a school counselor, teacher, librarian, or speech-language pathologist. This course covers the components of instruction, teaching strategies, types of assessments, student learning, special populations, and educational technology. Students will conduct observations of educators at work and create artifacts for a course portfolio, which will continue with them throughout the program of study. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will have a fundamental understanding of instructional strategies needed for becoming an educator. / Required Materials

Grades are based on a point system. Assignments will vary in point values. Letter grades follow WCHS policy:
A 93 – 100%
B 85 – 92%
C 75 – 84%
D 70 – 74%
F 0-69%

Late Work
Late work will be accepted up to one school week after the due date. For every day the assignment is late, 5 points will be deducted from the final grade.
1 day = -5 points
2 days = -10 points
3 days = -15 points
4 days= -20 points
5 days = -25 points
*Work will not be accepted after 5 days of the original due date.
Technology Use
❏Per school policy, cell phones will be taken up at the beginning of class and given back at the end
❏Cell Phones should not be used during class unless teacher instructs students to use for educational purposes
❏ If cell phones are out during class, the teacher has the right to collect the phone and turn into administration / Tardy Policy
❏Students should be in their seat and working on bellwork when the tardy bell rings.
❏School policy will be followed when dealing with tardies:
❏4 tardies = verbal warning and a parent letter/phone call
❏5 tardies = 1 day of ISS and/or loss of parking pass for 5 days
❏6 tardies = 1 day of OSS, loss of parking pass for 10 days, student will be placed on behavior contract, AND possible discipline board referral
❏7 or more tardies = OSS until discipline board meeting and loss of parking pass for the remainder of the semester / Make Up Work
❏It is the student’s responsibility to check for any make-up work
❏Students should submit make-up work within the same number of days they were absent
