The postholder is responsible to the Headteacher in all matters and the Lead Practitioner English in respect of curricular matters

He/she is responsible for assisting with the support and the supervision of all staff, including temporary teachers who work within the subject.

Primary purpose of the job: /

To provide leadership of literacy across all areas of the school and to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Headteacher.

Main duties and responsibilities/accountabilities

The postholder also interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships with them and to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school.
The responsibilities attaching to the post are as follows:
  1. To be accountable for the standards of teaching and learning and pupil progress in Literacy throughout the school.
  2. To lead, manage and develop Literacy throughout the school.
  3. Take responsibility for the development and implementation of the wholeschool policy for Literacy.
  4. Use national, local and school management data to monitor standards ofachievement across the school in Literacy.
  5. Collaborate with staff on short, medium and long term planning to developLiteracy in relation to:
- Resources
- Continuous professional development of staff
- Aims of the school, including its policies and practices
- Challenging targets for improvement
  1. General duties as a Teacher of English
  2. To work alongside the Lead Practitioner on developing good practice in the teaching of the subject.
  3. To co-ordinate and take day-to-day responsibility for enrichment activities, as appropriate relating to Litercay
  4. To prepare and maintain, in consultation with colleagues, courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment with reference to the subject.
  5. To co-ordinate the assessment process under the general direction of the Lead Prctitioner.
  6. To contribute to Faculty/subject meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the work of the faculty/subject and integrate this into the work of the school as a whole.
  7. To hold meetings for teachers of the subject.
  8. To undertake subject and Literacy self-evaluation.
  9. To promote and maintain the ethos and values of the school.
  10. To contribute to subject development planning which relates to the School Vision.
  11. To attend appropriate subject training and meetings as required.
  12. To provide appropriate interventions to combat underachievement.
The postholder must carry out their duties with full regard to the City Council’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Community Strategy policies.
To contribute and demonstrate a commitment to the City Council’s Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy.
To undertake any other such duties that are reasonably commensurate with the level of this post
