Interventions

No disruption to the teaching process will be tolerated in my class. Students who disrupt the class by talking, being off task, passing notes or who violate any of the other school rules for any reason will be subject to the following consequences:

1. Warning 2. Intervention 3. 5 min. time out 4. Classroom Timeout w/ Reflection (Bullpen)

5. Referral – With attached reflection

Attendance and Tardies

Students who miss more than 15 days of school are in danger of failing this course. It is vital for your success that you come to class. If absences occur, it is up to the student to ask about the work they have missed. They will have the amount of time of the absence to return the work back to me. Absent one day = One day to do the work. Absent 3 days = 3 days to complete work. This is crucial in drama as it is a performing arts class. If you miss class and are in a group it affects your grade and the end product of the group.

Late Work Policy

Because this class is based on participation activities, absences have a larger consequence. Some assignments can be made up late and others cannot. Therefore it is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher to an alternative assignment to replace what they have missed. Students will have 1 week to make up an assignment either before school or after.

Classroom Protocol and Expectations

Students are expected to work well with others in the class from bell to bell. HORSE PLAY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and can be grounds for dismissal from drama. Students are expected to participate in every activity given by the instructor, written or performance. Fundraising is a necessity in a performing arts class.

Projects, Assignments and Fundraising

Throughout the year, my goal is to get your student to think outside the box and grow as actors and students. They will be challenged with projects and assignments that allow them to think and grow as individuals. All assignments are important so it is up to the student to complete the work and turn it in on time. Students will be required to complete some of the following: monologues, duet scenes, prop and setting projects, writing scenes andacting. All projects are in preparation for high school and life beyond.

To the Parents

I have your child’s best interest at heart. Therefore I will try to push them to achieve excellence. In order to do this, they must open their mind to the possibilities beyond the normal. Life is an adventure and I hope to embark on that adventure with your middle schooler. I hope by the end of the journey, they will have grown and I will have grown by knowing them. If you have any questions, problems or concerns please contact me.
