The pupils will learn to manipulate paint understanding how and when to vary paint thickness, intensity

CONTENT OF LESSON: (Methodology, Materials, Organisation, Timing etc)

The classroom is set up with the data projector and lap top prepared with student work and artists work organised for self and peer assessment of work.

Paints, water pots, brushes and palettes prepared ready for painting.

Student work set out on tables. Spare A3 sugar paper for pupils absent last lesson

00.00 Pupils arrive and line up outside the classroom. Pupils enter the room sitting in given seats collecting aprons as they come in (pupils have been workingin given groups organised due to ability, mixing able and less able. Each group is working from a different painters work, Frank Auerbach, Jock Mc Fayden, Michael Andrews or WalterSickert)

Teacher takes the register.

Teacher introduces the aims of the lesson today.

Teacher asks pupils to have out their homework. Pupils asked to discuss in pairs their homework. (Painting of a section from a given painting), what makes a successful piece of painting?

Whole class discussion as to what makes a successful painting.

00.10 Teacher asks pupils to discuss in their groups their classwork and the work of their given artist,analysing the composition, colour mixing and paint application all to create particular mood/atmosphere.

Use of white board for key words

Teacher goes amongst pupils giving individual support and advice.

00.20 Pupils feed back to the whole group using the data projector to show their work

to the whole class. Pupils explain what they feel is successful in their painting and what needs improving, referring to colour mixing and paint application.

00.40 Pupils begin painting considering the ways to improve their work which they have outlined. Teachergoes amongst pupils offering individual advice and support

01.0Teacher picks out examples of pupil work which is making good progress

01.05 Pupils continue with painting considering ways to improve their work. Teacher goes amongst pupilsoffering individual advice and support.

01.15 Pupils complete painting and set out on one table to evaluate the work as a whole class. Pupils clean up from painting.

01.20 Conclusion

Teacher led question and answer session, evaluating how the paintings have developed, which techniques are successful and what makes them a success. Discuss with the pupils how this will support the creation of their final painting.
