RULES
TCA Mixed Championship 2018 Rules
1. The Canadian Curling Association rules shall apply except as provided herein.
2. Teams shall be composed of 2 male players and 2 female players, and the members of the team do not have to belong to the same club. The male and female players shall throw in alternate positions. Sweepers of the final two (2) stones of the end shall be of opposite gender and the skip and acting vice-skip shall also be of opposite gender.
3. In the Open Event, each player must be a minimum of 19 years of age as of December 31st of the year prior to the bonspiel.
4. In the Senior Event, men, must be a minimum of 50 years of age; women a minimum of 45 years of age, as of December 31st of the year prior to the bonspiel.
5. All games are 8 ends, but a full 8 ends is not required if both skips agree.
6. If after 8 ends the score is tied, the play shall be directed toward the home end for each additional full ends as may be required to decide a winning team.
7. If a team is unable to commence play at the designated time: if the delay of the start of play is one to fifteen minutes, then the non-offending team receives one point and will have last rock in the first end of actual play. One end is considered played.
If the delay of the start of play is fifteen to thirty minutes, then the non-offending team receives one additional point and will have last rock in the first end of actual play. Two ends are considered completed.
If the play has not started after 30 minutes, the non-offending team is declared the winner by forfeit.
8. All games shall be played as scheduled except in the case of a weather-related problem or mechanical problem at the hosting club.The umpire may postpone or delay the starting time for any game with the authorization of the umpire-in-chief for extenuating and impartial reasons.
9. Slow play is strongly discouraged.
10. Vices will do any necessary measuring.
11. Rock colour for the finals of the open and senior events will be determined by a coin flip in the lounge prior to the games.
12. Practice is not permitted prior to the game.
13. The use of a curling “stick” is permitted.
14. If a player becomes ill or is injured during a game, a team may continue to play with three players for that game only without penalty. The team may continue to throw in the original rotation.
15. The Drawmaster shall be notified of any spares. Each team shall be allowed a maximum of two spares (1 male and 1 female) during the competition.
16. All teams must have two original members to be legal.
17. Spares are permitted in any game on notification to and approval of thehost club umpire before commencing the game.
18. Spares cannot play above the position of the missing player. Spares may only play for one team during the course of the bonspiel.
19. A player from a team that has competed or is still competing is not eligible to spare for another team.
20. A team that arrives with only three players will be allowed to play only one game with three players without penalty. Male and female players shall throw in alternate positions. Three player teams will throw 3- 3- 2.
21. If a fourth player arrives before the completion of the fourth end, he or she will be allowed to enter the game without penalty. If the fourth player enters the game after the completion of the fourth end then the game is considered to have been played with three players. The player is allowed to play in his/her original position.
22. If a team starts a second game with three players, then the penalty is the loss of two points on the scoreboard and one end played. The non-offending team is given the choice of hammer or rock colour. Male and female players shall throw in alternate positions. A team will not be allowed to curl a third game with three players.
23. All games on the Sunday must be started and played with four players.
25. Entry fee will not be returned with less than 48-hour phone notice of withdrawal from the start of the event.
26. Special Rules for 2018 Senior Draw
a)This affects the teams playing in the main event games S25, S26 and S27.The outcome will affect the semi finals in the second, third and fourth events. Games S206, S314 and S406.
b)In games Senior 25, 26 and 27, the three winners will draw the button at the end of their game.
c)For each of the three games affected, the winning team will have the choice of throwing the draw to the button either first or second.
d)It will be the standard tie breaker draw to the button. I.e. Only the sweeping of your own rock is permitted. The opposition is not allowed to sweep your rock at all. The result of each draw will be measured and recorded.
e)If both teams miss the house the draw to the button will be repeated.
f)The closest to the pin from the three winning teams will receive the BYE to the final on Sunday, game S30. The other two teams will play the semi-final Saturday afternoon, game S29. From the semi-final game the winner will play in the Main event final on Sunday. The loser will be declared the Main Event Consolation Winner. There will not be a Main Event Consolation Runner Up.
g)The three losers of those games, Senior 25, 26 and 27, rather than being eliminated, will also draw the button as described above.
h)They will move to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th event semifinals according to the following: The closest to the button will move to the second event, Senior 206, the next closest to the third event, Senior 314, and the third closest to the fourth event, Senior 406.
Curler's Code of Ethics
I will play the game with the spirit of good sportsmanship.
I will conduct myself in an honourable manner both on and off the ice.
I will never knowingly break a rule, but if I do, I will divulge the breach.
I will take no action that could be interpreted as an attempt to intimidate or demean my opponents, teammates or officials.
I will interpret the rules in an impartial manner, always keeping in mind that the purpose of the rules is to ensure that the game is played in an orderly and fair manner.
I will humbly accept any penalty, that the governing body at any level of curling deems appropriate, if I am found in violation of the code of ethics or rules of the game.
Fair Play
- Fair play begins with the strict observance of the written rule: however, in most cases, fair play involves something more than even failing observance of the written rule. The observance of the spirit of the rules, whether written or unwritten, is important.
- Fair play results from measuring up one's own moral standards while engaged in competition.
- Fair play is consistent demonstration of respect for teammates and opponents, whether they are winning or losing.
- Fair play is consistent demonstration of respect for officials, an acceptance of their decision and a steadfast spirit of collaboration with them.
- Sportsmanlike behaviour should be demonstrated both on and off the ice. This includes modesty in victory and composure in defeat.
