TaylorMade Introduces RocketBladez Max Irons

Incorporates All of TaylorMade’s Distance-Enhancing Technologies including the Speed Pocket in Every Iron

CARLSBAD, CALIF. (January 3, 2013) – TaylorMade Golf Company announces the introduction of its new RocketBladez Max irons, which incorporate every launch-enhancing and distance-promoting technology and feature that the company has in its arsenal.

The 4-iron through attack wedge (AW) feature TaylorMade’s innovative new Speed Pocket, designed to promote faster ball speed and a higher launch angle to promote more carry and distance, especially on mis-hits low on the face.

The clubheads of the 4- through 7-iron are hollow, which allowed TaylorMade engineers to incorporate numerous features that promote distance and make them easy to launch. Hollow construction allows the clubface to be made separately, making it possible to fashion an ultra-strong, ultra-fast face out of 455 stainless steel. Hollow, metalwood-like construction allows for an ultra-low CG location that makes it easier to launch the ball on a high flight, and a high MOI measurement that increases the clubhead’s stability on off-center hits, making RocketBladez Max remarkably forgiving.

“We’ve poured every bit of distance-enhancing know-how we have into RocketBladez Max irons to create a club that’s effortless to launch high, long and straight,” said Bret Wahl, vice president of iron, wedge and putter R&D. “RocketBladez Max use stronger lofts than standard RocketBladez and RocketBladez Tour irons to promote maximum ball speed, yet they’re also engineered to promote the highest flight. These competing performance attributes are only achievable by designing each club individually as a system in which all features and specs work together to deliver truly unique and exceptional results. Players looking for an easy-to-launch iron that promotes maximum distance should definitely demo RocketBladez Max.”

The clubface is more than ultra-thin and fast -- it also incorporates an improved version of TaylorMade’s renowned Inverted Cone Technology, which expands the area of the face that delivers high ball speed. The Inverted Cone works in conjunction with the face design to help control the manner in which the face flexes, reducing directional dispersion to promote improved accuracy.

A new shorter hosel design saves 9 grams that are strategically redistributed to lower the CG location, promoting a higher launch angle, higher peak trajectory and steeper descent angle for faster stopping and greater control on approach shots.

Two tungsten weights positioned in the toe ensure that the CG is positioned predictably in the center of the clubface, where impact results in maximum energy transfer to the ball to promote maximum distance.

Though RocketBladez Max irons are engineered to promote maximum distance, strict attention was paid to ensure consistent distance gaps throughout the set, a result of careful management of the Speed Pocket, Inverted Cone, clubface thickness, CG location, loft and shaft-length.

RocketBladez Max irons are equipped with a lightweight Matrix Program 55 graphite shaft designed to promote faster swing speed and exceptional consistency and accuracy.

Tech Talk

Set Breakdown

• 4-iron through AW incorporate TaylorMade’s new Speed Pocket technology to promote faster ball speed and higher launch for increased carry and distance.

• 4- through 7-iron feature hollow-head, thin-walled construction and an ultra-thin clubface design to promote faster ball speed, more forgiveness, higher launch, longer carry and a steeper approach angle.

• 8-iron through AW are wide-soled, oversized cavitybacks that incorporate the Speed Pocket to promote distance and greater consistency.

• The sand wedge is large and hollow-headed with TaylorMade’s renowned ATV sole to make blasting safely out of sand almost automatic.

Speed Pocket

Incorporated into the 4-iron through AW, the Speed Pocket works with the advanced ultra-thin face design and improved Inverted Cone shape to promote consistently high ball speed and distance on center and off-center hits, especially low on the face. A specially formulated polyurethane developed by 3M fills the Speed Pocket to quiet vibration without significantly slowing or inhibiting the flex of the pocket, and to keep the pocket free of debris.

Hollow Clubhead Construction

Inspired by TaylorMade metalwoods, the hollow head construction in the 4- through 7-irons allows superior perimeter-weighting, ultra-low CG and an ultra-fast 455 stainless-steel face for effortless launch and exceptional distance.

New Weight-Saving Hosel Design

A new shorter hosel design saves 9 grams that’s strategically redistributed to lower and center the CG location, promoting a higher launch angle, higher peak trajectory and steeper descent angle for faster stopping and greater control.

Improved Inverted Cone Design

An improved version of TaylorMade’s Inverted Cone clubface technology expands the area of the face that delivers high ball speed, while also working with the new clubface design to reduce the dispersion often associated with fast-flexing iron faces.

Tungsten Toe Weighting

Visible tungsten weight in the toe pulls the CG into the exact center of the face to ensure that center-face impact delivers maximum ball speed and distance.

Hosel Notch

A new external and internal notch in the hosel makes it easy to bend the head to adjust the lie angle.

Mirror-Chrome Finish

Beautiful mirror-chrome finish and premium cosmetics give RocketBladez Max irons a dynamic, high-tech appearance from every angle.

Matrix Program 55 Graphite Shaft

Matrix Program 55 shaft with 16-sided internal structure promotes faster swing speed and exceptional consistency and accuracy.
