Criteria / Comment / Recommendation
Commitment, perception & communication of local sourcing / There are in depth explanations of the local sourcing of all the fish, shellfish and meat on offer. 90% of the fish is locally sourced and there is a sustainability log at the reception desk. The menu changes daily on the availability of the catch. The staff showed in depth knowledge of this sourcing when asked.
Quality of the meal / Each element of each dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The judges were particularly impressed with the homemade batter for the calamari. The seafood platter was excellent and a certain head turner! The (hand dived) Lyme Bay scallops were perfectly cooked. The judges thought the gin and tonic jelly fantastic and are still talking about it!
Quality of service / The judges were welcomed promptly and put at ease at once. The waitress answered all questions very helpfully but did not oversell. They were all very professional and friendly. They were always present but didn’t hover.
Atmosphere, ambience and value for money / The atmosphere was buzzing. Some tables were turned twice but there was no pressure put on anyone. This is not the place to go if looking for a £6.99 carvery but is good value for those looking for locally produced and sustainable food beautifully cooked. / The toilets are perfectly clean and tidy but perhaps a little dated.
Summary Comments / This is a special occasion restaurant but well worth it! The judges will definitely return.
