Tarleton State University Junior High Band Camp

Tarleton State University

Stephenville, TX 76402

June 14-17, 2010

Dear Junior High or Middle School Band Director,

It is our pleasure to announce that we will be restarting the Tarleton Junior High Band Camp this summer. Our camp will be a safe, fun, motivational and educational experience for your students!

We want to introduce ourselves now so that as you get communication from camp you'll know who we are and how to contact us with questions. Doug Fulwood is Director of Bands for Decatur ISD, and Liz Wetherbee is Head Middle School Director for Iowa Park CISD. We're here to serve your students and hopefully fill a missing part of your summer camp routine.

The camp will be held on the TSU campus in Stephenville, TX on Monday, June 14th- Thursday, 17, 2010. It's open to students entering the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade for the 2010-2011 school year. The format will include placement in a camp band, instrumental instruction, recreation time, and a camp band concert on the last day of camp. Directors and parents are encouraged to attend. TSU's instrumental faculty members will also be involved with the camp as they have extensive experience with this age group of student.

There will be prepared music selections for auditions in the camp bands. All students will make a camp band. In the past students have auditioned by sight-reading and scales. We'll try to make the audition process as smooth as possible. We'll send out the audition music once students have registered for camp.

Student safety is a primary focus. We realize parents sometimes have a difficult time trusting students of this age group overnight. All recreation and dorm staff are on 24-hour duty to ensure that students are safe and supervised appropriately. While students will have recreation and activities each night, their time will bestructured and well monitored. In addition, students have a strict dorm curfew each night and all camp rules and guidelines are enforced at all times.

Cost, of course, is also important. We've tried to keep camp cost to a minimum so students and parents get the most value for their dollar. Camp cost for a residential camper will be $260.00 and camp cost for a commuter camper will be $180.00 (does not include breakfast each day). This fee includes dorm room, meals, instruction, and recreation.

We've been one of the most affordable summer band camps in the state for many years. Our staff puts this camp on as a service for our own students as well as yours. We're very sensitive to the economy and challenges our own students and parents are facing. It's our hope that students will attend this camp each year since we believe it will be such a rewarding experience. We're still able to take advantage of the outstanding rehearsal facilities at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. In addition, Tarleton has brand new dining and recreation facilities.

Our new website will be up and running shortly. Until then, you can go to and search for Tarleton Junior High Band Camp. All new information will be posted there. Should you have questions in the mean time please feel free to e-mail or call at the contact info listed below.

Sincerely,

Doug Fulwood Liz Wetherbee
