Since I am a Tamil myself, I want to inform you about the present situation for Tamils in Sri

Lanka. As you know there has been a Civil War in the country for about 25 years. The reasons for this conflict, which is mainly ethnical, go back to colonial times. I want to comment on this conflict. My goal is to make you understand why it is so difficult to make peace in my country.

Wakeboarding

by

Tommy Haaheim

Nobody knows for sure who came up with the idea of wakeboarding. What we know is that because the sport has evolved from many different sports simultaneously, the creativity of individuals has always been pushing the limits. In fact, the sport has had few pioneers. Those people have pushed its limits and made it the extreme sport it is today.

The interest for wakeboarding has exploded over the last years. Today,it is the fastest growing water sport in the world. Last year over 4 million people across the globe participated. The capital of wakeboarding is Florida, USA, which is where this unique sport has evolved the most over the years.

Annually, the athletes have been pushing the limits further and further with breathtaking moves and stunts. This has caused a continually growing public interest, and every year new young people reach the top in the contests.

In my presentationI will givea short historical survey of wakeboarding, explain some of the basic tricks and terminology as well as inform about the equipment that is used.

Body Flying

by

Kenneth Knudsen

I want to present Body Flying.

Body Flying is almost like a skydiver simulator. It is a wind tunnel that simulates free fall conditions for skydivers.

A huge five blade propeller produces an up to 200 km/h fast vertical air stream. On this air stream people are flying. Experts can fly about 15 metres.

I tried it once, in Grand Canaria. It was great fun. I had the feeling of being weightless. It was difficult to keep the balance, but I had an instructor who showed me how to do it.

As far as I know, you cannot “bodyfly” in Norway, but I am sure this sport would fascinate many Norwegians.

The Creators of Modern Fantasy

- Edgar Allan Poe & H.P.Lovecraft -

by

Christian Kroken

Edgar Allan Poe lost his mother and father at an early age and his life was filled with tragedies. He also married his 13 years old cousin who died at the age of 27.

Poe wrote stories like The Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado, and the famous poem The Raven. One of the greatest mysteries about Poe, however, is his death.

Like Poe, H.P.Lovecraft had a troubled life. He wrote horror stories about an ancient evil race that was sleeping under the sea, ready to return when the stars were right. One curiosity is that he actually wrote 100,000 letters in his life.

If you know the facts about the lives of the two writers, it will give you an insight into why they wrote the stories they did.
