TamaCounty Fair Scholarship

The Tama County Livestock and Fair Association "Tama County Fair Scholarship" was established to recognize outstanding high school students who participate in the Tama County Fair through either 4-H or FFA programs.

Two scholarships will be awarded annually provided minimal requirements* are met. The scholarship will be presented following the 4-H Fun Night activities in the Tama Jim Wilson Arena on the fairgrounds in Gladbrook. Winning essays may be read at the presentation. Awards will be provided to winners following successful completion of their first semester of college. This year's scholarships will be $500 each.

To be eligible for the scholarship you must

  • actively participate at the Tama County Fair
  • be a graduating senior
  • plan to enroll in college

The selection committee will consider the following criteria for selection:

  • essay describing the impact of the Tama County Fair on your life
  • exhibits, performances, participation at the Tama County Fair
  • letters of reference

Must be signed & sealed in an envelope from the referring party. References shouldn’t be an immediate family member. I.e. Mother, father, brother or sister.

  • extra-curricular and community activities
  • community service / volunteerism

The selection committee is comprised of fair board members and extension personnel.

The application deadline is June 15. Applications must be postmarked by this date to be considered on time.

Applicants must submit all required items of the application. Applications must be typed or computer generated.

All items must be submitted in one envelope. Late applications will not be considered for evaluation.

Applications may be obtained from school guidance counselors, the extension office, or by mail from the address below.

*An applicant must earn at least 50 points on a 100 point scale to be eligible.

Your application must be accompanied by (2) letters of reference. These references should be typed or computer generated and support why you should be chosen for the Tama County Fair Scholarship.

Letters of reference should portray the character of the individual; this should not be a simple listing of accomplishments. Readers should be able to visualize something of the applicant after reading the letter of reference. Please state your relationship to the applicant.
