Taft High School UIL Meet

Dear UIL Coaches,
We would like to invite you to the Taft High School UIL Meet on Friday-Saturday, February 24-25, 2017. We will offer all UIL events except C-X Debate. UIL rules will be followed as closely as possible except in math and science. Math and science events will be graded by grade levels. Entry fees will be $8.00 per student per academic event. Computer Science written and programming will be offered on Friday, February 24 beginning at 4:30. Fees for Prose, Poetry, Informative, and Persuasive events will be $10.LD entries will be $20. Each school entering Speech events and LD will need to provide a judge or pay a judging fee ($25 for Speech/$45 for L-D) for every 3 entries. Entries must be mailed, faxed or e-mailed by February 22, 2017. Additional entries may be added after the deadline depending on available space.
Medals will be awarded for first through third places, and ribbons will be awarded for fourth through sixth places in large and small school divisions. First and Second place Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded in both divisions for accumulating the most points. Speech and Journalism events will not be divided into two divisions.
We will be having a concession stand in the student center and request that students remain in the student center when they are not testing. Also remember Taft High School is a tobacco free campus.

Computer Science Events will be held the Friday before the tournament.
Friday, February 26, 2016. Entry fees will be $40 per team (3 members) plus $8 for the written test.
4:30 - 5:00 – check-in and setup
5:00 – 5:45—written contest in Rm. 10
6:00 – 6:25—complete setup and dry run
6:30 – 8:30—programming contest in Rm. 10, out by 9:00
2017Thirtieth Annual Taft UIL Meet
Speech events will be headquartered in the Media Center and the L-D will be in the UIL Office. The coaches’ lounge is located across from Room 18. Please remember to keep food in the lounge and that Taft High School is a tobacco-free school.
Coaches will be needed to grade the following events: Accounting, Computer Applications, Social Studies, Current Issues and Literary Criticism (Room 14), Spelling & Vocabulary (Room 24), Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, and Science (Room 18). Ready Writing results will be announced today.
A concession stand is provided for students in the Student Center. Please keep food and drinks out of the main building.
Results will be posted in the Student Center as soon as they become available. Awards may be picked up by the coaches in the Tab Room (Room 19) across from the coaches’ lounge.
Papers will be returned to the Tab Room about 30 minutes after results are posted and sponsors may pick them up.
Each school will receive a packet of blank tests and keys at the end of the practice meet.
TWENTY-NINTHTAFT HIGH UIL PRACTICE MEET ENTRY BLANK
Place the number of entries you have for each event in the blank provided. All contest material will be third party vendors—not state released. A limit of five per school unless space is available EXCEPT in spelling and computer applications where each school may enter only three. Math, Computer Science written, and Science events have unlimited entries. Call after February 22, 2017 to enter additional contestants.
