Table Tennis (Ping Pong)

Until 2001 a table tennis game was played up to 21 points. In order to make the game more exciting, have more “crucial” points, and make it more appealing to television viewers, the rules of table tennis were changed. The game is now played up to 11 points.

The Game:

·  11 points-Rally Score

·  Each server serves 2 points, and then the serve goes to the opponents for the next 2 points and so on until the end of the game. If the score becomes tied at 10-10, each player only serves for 1 point in turn.

A Good Service:

·  Server hits the ball so that it touches his court first and then, after passing over the net, touches the receiver’s court.

·  A serve that hits your side, then touches the net and goes over is called a “let” and is replayed.

Singles:

·  In singles, the serve may hit anywhere on the server’s court, pass over the net, and hit anywhere on the receiver’s court.

Doubles:

·  In doubles, partners must take turns hitting the ball.

·  When serving in doubles, the ball must touch the right half court of the server’s court, then the right half court of the receiver’s.

Let serve:

·  A let serve is when the ball hits the net and continues to go over. No point is awarded and the serve is replayed.

Point:

·  A player scores a point if:

o  Opponent fails to return a serve

o  His opponent returns the ball over the net but it doesn’t bounce on his side

o  The opponent’s racket touches the net

o  In doubles, if the players hit the ball out of sequence

If the ball has gone past the end of the table without bouncing and you hit it, you win the point. Also, if the ball has gone past the end of the table without bouncing and then it hits you or any part of your body, you win the point.
