Creating a Slide Show in Microsoft Power Point

1. To get started

·  Open Microsoft Power Point.

·  Select Blank Presentation. Click OK.

·  Select a Layout for your first slide. Click OK.

·  Follow the directions on the slide to enter your information.

2. To save your presentation

·  Click on the File menu and select Save As.

·  Name the file and save to the desired location.

·  Save after each slide.

·  NOTE – After the initial save, there is no need to Save As and re-name. Simply click on the File menu and select Save to add the new slide to the original file.

3. To create new slides

·  Click on the Insert menu and select New Slide. (Notice the Shortcut button. It is on the Formatting toolbar for future use.)

·  Choose the layout you would like.

·  Follow the directions on the slide to add information or graphics.

4. To insert pictures from sources other than clipart

If you have saved pictures or graphics from the Internet or any other source and you need them on a slide, they may be added in several ways:

A.  Import Graphics through ClipArt.

·  If you select a slide Layout that has a place for clipart, Double-click on the Add Clipart box.

·  In the Clip Gallery Box select Import Clips.

·  Select the location and file name of the graphic you would like to insert. Click Open.

·  Under Keywords type a name for this new piece of ClipArt and select a category in which it fits.

·  Click OK.

·  Select (All Categories) in the category list. Find your clip. Select it and Click Insert.

·  Close the Picture toolbar out of your way.

B.  Insert graphics onto a non-ClipArt slide.

C.  To insert a graphic into any slide, even if there is no place holder for ClipArt:

·  Click on the Insert menu and select Picture.

·  Choose From File.

·  Select the Location and File name you would like to use and click Insert.

·  Click and drag the graphic to the desired location. You may also resize the graphic.

5. To change text font

·  Either click on the border surrounding one of the text boxes or highlight all of the desired text in the text box.

·  Using the Formatting Toolbar set the font style and size of your choice.

6. To add a background color

·  Click on the Format menu and select Background.

·  Click the drop down list indicator. Click More Colors.

·  Choose a color you like.

·  Click OK.

·  You may change the color of the current slide by clicking Apply, or you may change the color of all of the slides by clicking Apply to all.

7. To add a background design

·  Click on the Format menu and select Apply design.

·  Choose the design you want.

·  Note that the design will affect all of the slides in your presentation. You may still change the background color on individual slides, but the design will be on all slides.

·  Click Apply.

8. To animate slides

All text and graphics on a slide may be animated

·  Click on the Slide Show menu and select Custom Animation.

·  Click on the Timing tab.

·  Choose from the list, any part of the slide that you would like to animate.

·  Click in the bullet box beside Animate. Choose whether you would like to animate On mouse click or Automatically. If you choose Automatically, be sure to set the # of seconds.

·  Click on the Effects Tab.

·  Choose an animation and sound.

·  Click back to the Timing Tab and continue with any other objects that you would like to animate.

9. To add slide transitions

·  Click on the Slide Show menu and select Slide Transition.

·  Choose the desired effect from the drop down list.

·  Choose the desired speed.

·  Choose whether you would like the transition to happen on the mouse click or if you would like it to be automatic.

·  Choose either Apply or Apply to All.

10. To change slide order

·  Click on the View menu and select Slide Sorter. Note the different symbols for the different view options. These are the symbols for the shortcuts in the bottom left-hand side of the window.

·  Click and drag the out of place slide to the desired location.

11. To view the slide show

·  Move to the first slide

·  Click on the View menu and Slide Show. (Or use the shortcut in the bottom left corner.)

Be sure to save one last time and then close out of Power Point.
