TAB CARDS- CRITICAL FACTORS
RESTAURANT TAB CARDS
When guests arrive in the restaurant for a meal always offer them a drink in the bar first. They may be waiting for more guests or you may not be ready to seat them. It also maximises sales.
Explain to the guests that we will transfer their drinks from the bar onto their restaurant bill.
Hand the guest a red restaurant tab card having noted the card number in the booking message section of Res 5.
If they are a chance/walk in add them to the wait list by
- First choosing the number of covers
- Then click Add to Wait List
- Take a name or type in description
- Next to message type in the restaurant tab card number
- Choose the time they would like to sit down
When taking a guest from the bar to their table it is of utmost importance that you retrieve the tab card. If tab cards are lost and bills are not transferred they will be paid for out of tips.
After seating the guests immediately transfer the tab card contents onto the table.
Place the tab card at the back of the stack so that it will not be used again until much later. This way if mistakes are made they are more easily fixed before the guest has left.
BAR TAB CARDS
When customers are drinking in the bar but not dining they will be given the option to open a bar tab.
The bar tab card must be exchanged for a credit card. We do this for security reasons as on busy nights it is not always feasible to keep an eye on all guests in the bar.
If guests move from the restaurant to continue drinking in the bar area, their meal must be transferred onto a bar tab card and a credit card taken in exchange. If this is not done and they walk out without paying the bill total will be taken out of tips!
CLOAKROOM TAB CARDS
At all times offer to take a guests coat as soon as you have greeted them.
Hang the coat on a hanger and hand the guest the corresponding black cloakroom tab card
When guests are leaving ask them politely for the cloakroom tab card before you give them their coats.
It is imperative that the cloakroom tab card is received before coats are given to ensure they are the correct ones!
Place the black cloakroom tab card back on the corresponding hanger and replace in the cloakroom.
