Systems Analysis Assignment #2

1)  In class on September 24th you were split into groups and asked to jointly come up with a solution to a case study.
Hand in the group answer, documenting who the other members of your group were. It will be marked based on the number of distinct points made and how related and valid these points are to the details of the case. If you feel it will help then have your group either meet or conference online to discuss any further improvements.
If you have any additional points of your own, or you disagree with anything that the group had to say, document that these are your own points and add it at the end.
If you missed the class then you will have to answer the assigned question on your own. (8 marks)

2)  Consider the Chapter 2 case study of the New Century Health Clinic. For the developing of and/or operating the new proposed system, list:

a)  A tangible and and intangible benefit
/ Answer on a separate sheet, not the assignment paper. It is suggested that you use a table format similar to that presented here.
b)  a direct and an indirect cost
c)  a recurring and a non-recurring benefit
d)  a fixed and a non-fixed cost
e)  development reated costs in the areas of Personnel and Supplies
f)  Operational related costs in the ares of Capital and Overhead

3)  Functional Decomposition Diagram (6 marks)
Design an FDD for one of the following types of software systems. In order to generate a variety of different solutions, take the 7th digit of your student number. If you or a member of your family own a personal medical device that requires a software system you may choose it as an example instead. Please cite any real example that you used as an example.
The depth of your design should be no greater than 3 and no module should break up into more than 7 sub modules. Expand only one of the level 3 functions to a depth of 4.

4)  If the last digit of your student number is odd, answer the questions for JAD session I on pp181 (Ch 4). If the last digit of your student number is even, answer the questions for JAD Session II on pp182. (8 marks)

5)  Data Flow Diagram I

On October 10th we will be splitting into groups of size 5 and working on the New Century Health Clinic Case Study at the end of Chapter 5. Each group will be required to produce a Context diagram identifying the relationship of the system to external systems and a Level 0 DFD reflecting top level processes. Individual members of the group are to separately prepare a lower level DFD for one of the numbered processes and then review it with the group. The mark for this exercise will be shared equally with other members of the group. (6 marks)

6)  Data Flow Diagram II (6 marks)
If the second last digit of your student number is odd, answer questions 1&2 for, Precsion Tools on pp 237 (Ch 5) of the 9th edition. If the last digit is even, answer the same questions for Personal Trainer Inc. Submit a context diagram and a DFD for the order system.
