System-Wide Accessibility Weekly Update

For week of Sunday 10/17/10-Saturday 10/23/10

General:

·  Attended event at City Hall to introduce Boston’s new Disabilities Commissioner

·  Attended panel organized by the City of Cambridge to discuss the impact of the ADA Amendments Act

·  Rehearsed MassDOT’s “How Can I Help You Today?” training with co-faculty

·  Presented “How Can I Help You Today?” training to union leadership

·  Participated in teleconference with Office on Diversity & Civil Rights (ODCR) staff and customer regarding recent bus complaints

·  Participated in the Malden Station "Join the GM Event"

·  Attended Disability Employment Awareness celebration at 10 Park Plaza sponsored by Partners in Transportation

·  Presented Access Guide Pilot website to General Manager Davey

·  Met with Human Resources to review proposed video for use with internal training

·  Met with T System-wide Modernization to discuss SWA Back Bay and Downtown Crossing Reduced Fare CharlieCard Offices

·  Attended Boston City Council Public Hearing on Hearing Loop technology

·  Reviewed design plans for Government Center Station

·  Conference call with David Bacquis of U.S. Access Board to discuss upcoming U.S. Access Board meeting 11/8-11/11/10

·  Met with Laura Brelsford to review MassDot Customer Service Training

·  Presentation of MBTA Access Guide Pilot to Rich Davey, Cathy Lynds, and Scott Darling

·  Met with Operations staff to discuss Bus Stop Accessibility

Design and Engineering:

·  The following plans were reviewed and comments submitted

o  Spreadsheet with all platform elevations as well as top of rail elevations with respect to platform gaps at State Street Station

o  Review and prioritize the list of key bus stops on spreadsheet for Operations

·  Site Inspections/Site Visits

o  State Street Station (platform gaps)

o  Bowdoin Station (train operations)

o  Lechmere Station (mobile lifts – outbound platform)

o  Mansfield Station (walkway connection between mini-high platforms and accessible parking spaces on both sides of the station)

·  Meetings

o  Municipal Rights of Way (Public ROW) Workshop

o  Coordination meeting with Operations and Design & Construction

o  Meeting with Operations in regards to accessibility of bus stops including bus signs, boarding pads, bus shelters, etc.

Customer Complaints:

·  Tracked 16 complaints filed by 12 customers

-  12 Fixed Route

-  4 THE RIDE

·  3 complaints were forwarded to Office of Diversity & Civil Rights (ODCR) for investigation

Internal Access Monitoring Program:

·  11 Monitors conducted 58 trips throughout all of fixed route system (52 Bus; 3 Subway; 3 Commuter Rail)

·  Continued generating text for the 2009 External Monitoring Report

·  Reviewed 12 completed monitoring forms

·  Verified the content of 32 scanned monitoring forms

·  Created 2 reports consisting of results from the IAM program’s Q3-2010

Reduced Fare CharlieCard Program Activity

·  Issued 1258 reduced-fare CharlieCards:

·  831 Senior CharlieCards

·  404 Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCards

·  14 Blind Access CharlieCards

·  9 “THE RIDE” CharlieCards

·  Reviewed 240 Transportation Access Pass CharlieCard applications

·  Processed 180 account deposits for customers of the MBTA Paratransit program THE RIDE for a total of $5,784.45

·  Conducted outreach event at the Melrose Senior Center

·  135 Senior CharlieCard and 6 TAP CharlieCard customers served
