Dear Headteacher,
We would like to offer your school free taster activities, including den building, craft and co-operative games, as part of a schools outreach programme in your area. Please take a look at the enclosed flyer, and let us know when a member of our team can call or meet you to discuss arrangements.
Woodcraft Folk has been funded by the Youth United Foundation and the Cabinet Office to support volunteers to open more children’s groups in the West Yorkshire area. We are a national charity that aims to develop children's self confidence and awareness of the world, encouraging equality, friendship and co-operation. Weekly group activities, weekend trips and summer camps are affordable and open to girls and boys of all faiths and none.
Our schools outreach programme offers an assembly, and taster activities held at one lunchtime and four after school family drop-in sessions. Our New Groups Team can tailor activities to suit your school’s timetable, the indoor/ outdoor space available the weather and learning programme. We have DBS checks, public liability insurance and will do risk assessments.
We introduce Woodcraft Folk in school assemblies, using an interactive presentation. This includes a film made by young people, and discussion of how children can put ideas about co-operation, democracy and active citizenship into practice. It supports school aims around promoting these values, broadening children’s educational horizons and building their confidence.
The indoor and outdoor taster activities can include:
●den building
●large scale natural art
●craft using natural objects such as mini-gardens and leaf art
●role play activities about social issues, such as a fair trade banana game
●parachute and other co-operative games
The school outreach programme offers one lunchtime session, for interested children who cannot attend after school, as well as after school family drop-in sessions, which may be offered all in one week or over four weeks. Each session can last 30-60 minutes. If there are spare places available, these can be allocated on a first come first served basis. The after school sessions include refreshments and a chance to engage parents/ carers. Many parents/ carers enjoy trying out new family activities while helping out at our groups, and we offer flexible volunteer opportunities, which look good on CVs too.
We supply invitations to book places on the school-based taster activities, which can be adapted for school newsletters and/ or provided in bundles of 30 to go in book bags. We can take bookings via email, phone or tear-off slips, which specify which adult will accompany a child or collect them. There will be information about how to join local Woodcraft groups on the invitations and at the taster sessions.
I look forward to hearing from you, if you would like to discuss your school’s requirements and convenient dates. Thank you for your attention.
Yours sincerely,
Katy Redgrave
