Course Description: This reading course is designed to accomplish the following: Promote reading enjoyment, build vocabulary, develop fluency, determine the purpose for reading, demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend content across the curriculum, expand comprehension skills and strategies, and build critical thinking.

Grading Policy: Grades are based on weekly selection tests, unit assessments, quizzes, classroom assignments, bell ringer activities, center activities, homework, and quarterly assessments.

Tests = 60 % Classwork /Activities = 25%

Quizzes = 10% Homework / Fluency = 5%

A= 100-90% B=89-80% C=79-70% D=69-60% F=59-0%

Students Expectations: All students are expected to do the following:

·  To do his or her best

·  Respect all

·  Take responsibility for his or her actions

·  Complete homework, assignments, projects, and etc.

·  Read daily

·  Build vocabulary

·  Ask questions and participate in discussions

Attendance: Students must be on time and attend school regularly as based on the Escambia County Public School System Attendance Policy.

Classroom Rules and Procedures: Students should enter the room quietly and complete the bell ringer assignment within the designated time period. All assignments must be turned in on time for full credit. Pencils should be sharpened and paper should be discarded at the beginning and end of each class period. Students are responsible for keeping a reading folder (with pockets and prongs) in order by assignment dates. Binders are permitted. Students are to write neatly in his or her best handwriting using a regular wooden pencil or black or blue ink pen. Students are to bring all required materials and must always respect others.

Independent Reading: All students are expected to read daily, in and out of the classroom. Each student is required to read one (1) novel per quarter and complete a project based on the novel. The students will visit the library weekly and are allowed to borrow books from the classroom library. All books must be returned in a timely manner and in good condition. If books are not returned, late, or damaged fees may be applied.

Homework: Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis as a follow up activity to skills and objectives taught in class. Homework will be graded.

Make Up Work: Make up work will be issued to students with excused absences. The student is responsible for obtaining and returning assignments within three (3) days of the absence.
