AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

The Arts AliveCombined Schools Drama Festival has a long tradition of drama excellence and is regarded as one of the premier school drama festivals in the state. The 2017 Arts Alive Festival of Drama provides an opportunity for your school to showcase the outstanding work achieved by students and staff.Students will benefit from an excellent performance venue and be enthused through interaction with other drama students.

The 2017 Arts Alive Festival of Drama will be held at NIDA’s “Parade Theatre”. This venue gives students the experience of performing in the main theatre of a premier performance venue.

Improvisation, movement, mime, storytelling, readers’ theatre, puppetry, mask, and playbuilding are eligible genres to audition with for the festival.

Auditions will be held in Term 2, Week 6.

Details for ticket bookings will be sent to all successful schools in Term 2. School groups are encouraged to attend as audience members.

Technical rehearsals:Thursday 20 Julyand Monday 24 July

Evening performances 7pm:Tuesday 25 July, Wednesday 26 July and Thursday 27 July

Matinee performance 11am:Wednesday 26 July (TBC)and Thursday 27 July

Guidelines for Participation

  1. School years

Students/school groups from Year K to 12 are eligible to participate.

  1. Number of students in each item

There is a maximum of 30 students per item.

  1. Number of Items per school

Each school is eligible to nominate up to 3 items. Only the nominated performances will be auditioned by the visiting panel.

  1. Copyright

The Department is now covered for schools to perform published scripts and recorded music as part of a dramatic work. For further copyright queries contact Elizabeth Stanton at APRA:

5.Participation

There is a participation fee of $15.00 per student accepted to perform in the festival following the audition.

6. Time limit

There is an 8minute maximum time limit per item.

Items over 8 minutes at the auditions will not be accepted into the festival!

7. Drama Styles

All forms of drama performances are eligible to audition. For example, improvisation, mime, play building, puppetry and storytelling. ALL performances presented should be suitable for audiences of ALL ages. Please keep this in mind as young children may be present at each performance.

8. Auditions

These will be conducted in your school in Term 2, week 6 (Monday 30 May – Friday 3 June).

DVDs and YouTube links will be accepted, but must be received at the address in the footer below by Friday 26 May (Week 5).
