Family Supporter

Responsible to:Supporting People Project Manager

Location:Caernarfon, Gwynedd

Salary:scale 17-22 (£17,506 i £20,441)

Hours:37 hours per week

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this post is to support young parents un der the age of 18 who are referred to GISDA for support. The family support worker will aim to improve the aspirations of parents and their children to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives as part of a strong and supportive community where they will have the opportunity to flourish and enjoy the experience of being part of a family.

The Family Supporters will work with young parents under the age of 18 to develop practical skills and personal development to ensure that they are not at any disadvantage due to their circumstance and age.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Assess the needs of young parents and agree on a support and development plan for each individual.
  • Review the development plan’s targets regularly.
  • Improve the mental health of the parents and their children that we engage with and equip them with the tools and techniques.
  • Support young parents to network and create links within their communities and with mainstream activities and services.
  • Support the parents to understand what are healthy relationships and healthy attachments.
  • Work with other agencies to ensure the service is holistic and one that will provide the best outcomes to the young parents and their children.
  • Advocate and campaign to ensure the rights of young parents.
  • Offer practical and emotional person centred support to promote improved mental helath.
  • Co-work with and support the peer mentors with their work to mentor the young parents.
  • Co-work with young parents to organise and develop a series of activities to promote the education and development of young parents.
  • Facilitate groups for young parents.
  • Facilitate opportunities for children to socialise together.
  • Co-ordinate the Agored Cymru’s units assessment work to coincide with the activities which will take place.
  • Minute all activities, assessments and any developments in detail.
  • Create strong networks with relevant agencies and services within your working area in Gwynedd.
  • To be a great source of information on the available resources available to support young parents in Gwynedd.
  • Monitor and evaluate the project.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Maintain and develop clear and accurate recording systems.
  • Be jointly responsible along with the Project Manager and the Head of Services for monitoring and reviewing all aspects of the project involving education and activities.
  • Ensure all statistical and monitoring information is regularly input into the computer.
  • Encourage young parents to actively participate in the development of the service and organisation.
  • Work with all the Company’s staff to promote the combination of the project with other services offered.
  • Represent GISDA in external meetings on request of the Project Manager and/or Head of Services.
  • Provide written reports for internal and external audiences on request of the Project Manager or / and Head of Services.
  • Develop partnerships with other agencies to develop the service to support young parents and their families.

ESSENTIAL
Qualification
  1. Education corresponding to at least NVQ 3
  2. Experience of working with children and families
Skills
Good oral and written communication skills in both English and Welsh.
Ability to present information orally and in writing.
Good interpersonal skills.
Good information technology skills.
Ability to record and organize information.
Flexible attitude towards training and assessment
Ability to work independently and to contribute in a team.
Ability to recognise and keep within professional boundaries.
Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information.
Full current driving licence.
Experience
