Required Personal Protective Equipment: CSA approved steel-toed footwear, CSA approved safety glasses or face shield, 100% cotton coveralls preferred, approved chemical gloves

GENERAL NOTES: The function of a parts washer is to clean/degrease items with the aid of various solvents (Varsol) and the use of cleaning brushes, and or scouring pads. Various types of materials (i.e. aluminum, steel, plastic, etc) may be cleaned with the appropriate cleansing agents/solvents. The parts washer/degreaser by its very nature should always be used in a well-ventilated area. The washbasin is equipped with a flowing parts washing brush. There is a switch on the side of the basin to select the washing brush. The part washer/degreaser should be grounded.

No lighters, matches or cell phones are allowed in the shop area. Long necklaces, bracelets and rings should be removed. Long hair should be tied back. Strings and hoods hanging from pullovers/sweaters should be removed or tucked inside of coveralls.

3 / Always be aware of the type of cleaning agent in the parts washer. Some chemicals do not mix well and may cause unwanted or dangerous chemical reactions. / Fume-Irritant

Fume-Toxic / Ask the instructor what type of cleaning agent is in the part washer/degreaser. Find out from MSDS sheets what type of chemicals cause dangerous chemical reactions.
4 / Use the appropriate solvent/cleaning agent for the material being cleaned. / Fume-Irritant

Fume-Toxic / Do not use the part washer/degreaser until you have referred to the Material Safety Data Sheets for Varsol. That way you will know if the chemical mix is dangerous or not.
5 / Do not use the parts washer as a chemical storage dump. / Fume-Reactive

6 / Do not use solvents with a flash point below 140 degrees Fahrenheit. / Fume-Reactive

7 / Make sure the lid is secured in the up position when in use. / Bruising of hand, wrist or arm / Ensure lid is secured in the up position before using part washer/degreaser.

9 / Do not operate the part washer/degreaser without the fusible link intact. / Fire / Know where to locate the fusible link and make sure it is intact.
10 / Clean the basin of debris after use with brush. Do not use bare hands. / Chemical-Irritant / Use appropriate gloves for solvent (Varsol) in part washer/degreaser.
11 / Turn off pump and leave lid in closed position. / Fire / Ensure lid is closed.
