Parents of children who will be entering kindergarten in the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District for the 2017-2018 school year must make an appointment for registration / screening of their child by calling the elementary school in their attendance area between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The phone numbers and dates for registration / screening at each elementary school are as follows:

All parents must register their child in the school attendance area where they reside. Parents must bring the child to the registration / screening.

The State of Ohio requires that each child have the following immunizations before entering school: diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis (five doses), measles, mumps (two doses), polio (four doses), hepatitis B (three doses), and varicella-chicken pox (2 doses).

All kindergarten pupils must be five years of age before August 1, 2017 in order to register for Kindergarten. Students who do not make the age requirement will need to apply for Early Entrance in order to be considered for kindergarten. Early Entrance applications are available at the district website (http://www.swissohio.k12.oh.us) under departments and then under Talented & Gifted section. Applications will also be available at the school during registration. Only students who are assessed to have an Intellectual Quotient of over 135 or show an academic advancement of two years or more beyond their current age will be considered for early kindergarten enrollment. Successful completion of kindergarten is mandatory in the State of Ohio prior to a child enrolling in the 1st grade.

Parents are reminded to bring the child’s birth certificate and records of immunization when registering. Custodial parents are required to provide a certified copy of any child custody order or decree pertaining to a pupil upon registration. Additionally, you will be asked to provide a copy of your child’s social security card.

The kindergarten teacher and a school nurse will be available to answer questions and assist parents during registration. Motor skills, academic concepts, and a language assessment will be administered to each child at the time of registration. Parents are asked to allow approximately one hour for registration /screening to be completed. Contact the school in the appropriate attendance area if there are any questions prior to the scheduled dates. Daycare is not available.
