Swift Camp Sweep & Art Contest

Campton, KY – Volunteers will join forces on June 1, 2013 in Campton as they participate in the Swift Camp Sweep. The cleanup will start at Campton City Park on Plummer Street at 9 a.m. This is a family-friendly event open to everyone, groups are encouraged. Supplies will be provided, but please bring a refillable water bottle and dress for the weather. Lunch for all participants will follow the cleanup at noon at the park. Art contest winners will be announced and door prizes awarded at lunch.

In conjunction with the cleanup is an art contest open to all students in Wolfe County. The theme is “Hopes and Dreams for Swift Camp Creek.” Entries must be submitted by May 3. The winners and prizes will be presented at lunch after the cleanup on June 1.

There will also be a free demonstration of water quality sampling by the Kentucky River Watershed Watch. This volunteer organization samples water in local streams all over the Kentucky River Basin. It is a safe and educational activity for all area residents, and new volunteers are needed.

The cleanup and art contest are part of a larger project to cleanup Swift Camp Creek and other tributaries to the Red River. Both are hosted by Kentucky Waterways Alliance, KY River Authority, and the Red River Watershed team.

Art Contest rules:

  1. All Wolfe County students, at any school, all grades, are eligible to compete in the art contest.
  2. An entry must be created by one and only one student.
  3. All entries become the property of the contest sponsors. The decisions of the judges are final.
  4. Art work shall be 9x12 inches. Any thickness or color of art board or cardboard may be used. Art paper may be used, but must be pasted onto art board or cardboard. Art work may be created in any medium: pencil, ink, charcoal, crayon, paint, etc, but must be flat, no 3-D art will be accepted. An entry may take any form – illustration, poster, advertisement, cartoon, graphic story, etc.
  5. The official entry form must be completed and secured to the back of the entry.
  6. Deadline for all entries is May 3, 2013. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the Swift Camp Sweep cleanup on June 1, 2013 in Campton. Students and families are strongly encouraged to participate in the cleanup.

Winners: 1st prize -$100 check; 2nd - $50 check; 3rd - $25 check
