I am presently working for Global Industries, a Houston based leading solutions provider of offshore construction, engineering, project management and support servicesincluding pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, deepwater/SURF installations, and diving to the oil and gas industry worldwide.

In my current employment I am serving as an owner representative for heavy lift and pipe lay vessel for Global industries being built in Keppel Shipyard, Singapore.

Work Experience:

1996-2003: Served as Marine Engineer with Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Hongkong.

Profile:

Assisting in numerous jobs in the ships such as overhauling engines, maintenance of supporting auxiliary machinery such as boilers, purifiers, associated pumps & air compressors.

Responsible for the maintenance of Main Engines (Sulzer, MAN B&W) to ensure efficient running by maintaining Specific Fuel Consumption (SFOC) and extended time between overhauls (TBO)

In-charge of maintenance, safe keeping and sate of readiness at all times for Diesel engines, Boilers, Purifiers, Pumps, Compressors, Inert Gas plants, Cargo handling systems, Deck Machineries, and various ship’s systems.

Maintaining adequate spares and spare part inventory management for the equipments on board.

2003-2005-Served as First Assistance Engineer with Dockendale Shipping, Bahamas.

2005- 2006 - Served as Class I Marine Engineer officer with A.P. Moller Maersk, Singapore.

Profile:

As senior management on board ships, was closely involved with planned maintenance programme and human resource management.

Scheduling planned maintenance of various ships’ systems during the short turn around time of the vessel in ports and anchorages.

Preparing dry dock specifications and guarantee defects.

Planning survey of machineries and qualifying the machineries for acceptance.

Ensuring compliance of vessel with statutory and governing rules.

2006-Jan 2010- Engineering Manager in Larsen & Toubro International Oil & Gas Special projects (IOGP) division for the new shipbuilding programme.

Profile:

Review and optimize the design with respect to constructability and maintainability aspects.

Generate the owner specifications for ship’s equipments including specific operational equipments for pipe-lay (Tensioners, Abandonment & Recovery winches, mooring winches, pipe handling equipment’s) and heavy lift (3000st crane and 2 nos. 50T pedestal cranes).

Communicate and provide detailed justifications to class on the development of specific operational scenarios for a 10 point moored vessel to seek class approval.

Coordinate engineering with various vendors located around the world to ensure that the delivery of equipments is on track. Track progress measurement and suggest alternatives to meet the planned deadlines.

Bridge the communication interface between yard and owner furnished equipment vendors in order to share the micro details required for actual site production.

Study the loading pattern of the structure in way of the equipment foundations and implement modifications to permit the allowable loading on the structure.

Review documents from various vendors and ensure compliance to owner’s specifications.

Project management by tracking progress as against planning.

Monitor change controls and negate variation orders.

Oversight yards engineering development and quality consciousness.

Jan 2010-Till Date – Owner Representative for Heavy Lift and Pipelay Vessel

Profile:

Project Management for Heavy lift and Pipelay vessel.

 Monitoring the management of changes for upgrades.

Coordinate engineering and interface issues with site team and the contractor.

Develop pipelay trial, sea trial and DP trial procedures.

Review and optimize the basic design concept to meet the DP (Dynamic Positioning) requirements.

Seek approval of the basic drawings from the classification society and coordinating with class on the statutory prerequisites.

Coordinate with ship yard on daily basis to elucidate any design constraints and production ambiguity in regards to erection & installation of equipments and vessels interface.

Expertise and Achievements:

  • Upgrade main crane operational limits:

Decide based on the in-house developed finite element model to improve the marketability of the vessel by upgrading the heavy lift crane from 2400st to 3000st fully revolving capability, subject to class verification.

Review the cost impact and liabilities incurred to induce the up-gradation.

  • Propose to enhance the operational capability from single pipe joint to double pipe jointing:

Study the impact on structure to enhance the capability of double pipe and piggy back joint options.

Provide localized stiffening and submit to class for approval to suffice the double pipe jointing capability.

  • Fully integrated fiber optic “Fly By Wire” report, control and command systems, including Crane / Ballast, Pipe lay tensioners, mooring winches, propulsion, steering with basic operating Directional Positioning (DP) & full vessel CCTV and security systems.
  • Formed part of successful team to float biggest vessel in the world ever to be launched on air bags.
  • Shipbuilding site selection:

Suggest management on the available shipbuilding sites with their merits and demerits for assisting in the final selection.

Involve during the techno commercial discussion with various yards to decide with management on the yard selection.

  • Ship’s operation experience for 9 years:

Involved in dry docking to tanker and one bulk carrier.

Repair and maintenance of shipboard machineries including but not limited to Main engines, auxiliary engines, boilers, pumps, purifiers, compressors, HVAC, deck equipment’s and associate auxiliaries.

Major repairs incurred due to breakdown of the turbochargers.

Served as a senior management with Class 1 MOT on board ships of A.P.Moller Maersk.

  • Present the project summary and progress on regular basis to the Members of board and the President.
  • Nominated for coveted Management Leadership Program(MLP), developed as a strategic initiative to meet the leadership needs of the organization. These programs offered in partnership with Mckinsey Consultants, selects deserving senior and middle level managers.

Summary:

After accomplishing MOT Class I certification, and having sailed for 9 years, I opted for the shore based job. I would now look forward to work as a senior management where by I could utilize my professional knowledge and expertise gained as Marine Engineer and thereafter as shipbuilding Engineering Manager.
