Terms of Enrolment – entrance requirements

Candidates are selected on the basis of their success during their last two years of secondary education (grades 9 and 10) and an entrance exam.

For students transferingfrom IBMYP to the IB Diploma programme in our school the Staff Council decided on following criteria:

  1. The grade point average of Grade 9 and 10 in MYP must be a 4.50 or higher
  2. Cumulative grades in the subjects of English, Mathematics, and the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) must be at least a 12
  3. at least a grade of “good” for behaviour
  4. interview with the candidate

Others will have to present a written request to the Staff Council to approve their admittance.

For new students applying to IB Diploma programme - Grade 11, the entrance exam consists of: Math Test, English Test, Literature Essay and an interview.

Math test consist of following topics: set of real numbers (natural, whole, rational); factoring algebraic expressions; algebraic fractions; least common multiple; linear equations and inequalities; absolute value and equations with absolute value; distance on a number line; rectangular co-ordinate system; powers and roots; circles and circumference; regular polygons; complex numbers; quadratic equation and quadratic function; exponential and logarithmic function; trigonometry of a right triangle. To review the stated topics candidates may use their regular text books from grades 9 and 10.

5.The length of the minor arc AB of a circle, centre O, is 2 cm and the length of the major arc is 22 cm. Find the radius of the circle and the acute angle AOB.

  1. The length of a rectangle exceeds the width by 2 cm. If the diagonal is 10 cm long, find

the width of the rectangle.

  1. Graph the function , and show clearly its vertex and the axes of

symmetry.

  1. The surface area of the base of a cylinder is 8 cm 2 . The radius of the base is the same

as the height of the cylinder. Find the volume of the cylinder.

9. Solve: .

  1. An isosceles triangle has sides of length 8 cm, 8 cm and 6 cm. Find the angle between the two equal sides.

English test consists of a number of multiple choice questions, testing the student’s basic grammar knowledge and their reading comprehension. Students are encouraged to revise their basic English grammar (for instance with editions like: Oxford University Press, M. Swan: Basic English Usage; Školska knjiga, Grgić-Brighta: English Grammar; Školska knjiga, Newby: Grammar for Communication and Grammar for Communication Exercises and Creative Activities) prior to the entrance exam. Watching news on CNN and SKY and reading British, American and Australian newspapers and magazines is also recommended.

Literature essay require the student to comment on a paragraph from a literary work.

Documents required for enrolment:

- Birth certificate (original or certified copy),

- School transcripts for the last two years,

- Copy of the passport page with personal information and a phopto

Expenses of the Programme

School fee paid by candidate is 46.000 HRK per year for international students, and 23.000 HRK for national and EU students, which includes tuition, books, and school trips. Students who require individual native languages will have additional expenses.

The School Board of XV. Gimnazija, on its meeting held on May 19, 2005 have decided that the students who require individual native languages, taught by part-time teachers, will have to cover 50% of the teaching costs.

The school covers payments to the IB Organisation.
