Swansea Stingrays 10th Disability Meet 26th April 2014

Glossop swimmers really took over south Wales on this weekend as well as the arena league the High Peak Sharks attended Swansea Stingrays 10th disability swimming gala. This is usually the highlight of the year for the Sharks and this year was no different.

The day started off with the development gala and the youngest swimmer Millie Whaites starred in her first ever gala. Millie did fantastic as one of the youngest swimmers in the gala taking 1st place in the 25m free.

Next up was Jasmine Bamber who set new PBs in all events and took 2nd pace in the 25free and 3rd in the 25m back.

Seb and Karsten Southwell competed in the the 50m free for the first time in a gala with both boys clocking brilliant times and putting up PBs in there 25m events.

In the main event the Sharks continued to put up some excellent performances.

To start of the main event Alan Bamber came out of retirement after little/no training and competed in the 50m back stroke, to everyone's surprise including his own set a new personal best. After which he thought he was having a heart attack ! His PB performance he took 1st place and continued to take 2nd place in the 100 IM and 50 breast stroke.

Not to be out done by her brother Ellie Bamber also got a PB in the 50m back taking 1st place. She also took first place in the 100m back and 200IM.

In the 100m breast stroke both Emily Higginbottom and Sophie Hand competed, both girls getting some good times and Martha Boult took 1st place for the girls.In the boys event Thomas Hand managed to go under the 2 minutes barrier for the first time.

Sam Higginbottom managed to finish in the top 3 places for all his events (50m back, 50m free and 50m fly )

Travis Hyland took 2nd place in the 50m back and Adele Hyland came 3rd in the 50m back.

The biggest PBs of the day went to Rachel Tweedie in the 100m IM (15seconds) and Adam Sherwood managed an amazing 30 seconds in the 100m free.

The freestyle relay team (Alan Bamber, Ellie Bamber, Travis Hyland and Sam Higginbottom) took 3rd place.
