SWA Sponsorship Programme Guidelines

SafeWorkAustraliasponsorship programme

Safe Work Australia’s sponsorship programme aims to promote community awareness and knowledge of work health and safety and workers’ compensation; to support initiatives aligned with the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022; and,highlightother key activities of Safe Work Australia.

It is important to note that sponsorship engagements by Safe Work Australia aim to support stakeholder engagement and priority work health and safety and workers’ compensation initiatives rather than self-promotion.

ForSafeWorkAustralia thetermsponsorshipcaninclude theprovisionof goods,services,cash, intellectual propertyor expertiseinreturnfornegotiatedbenefits.

Sponsorship guidelines

Inorder for SafeWorkAustraliatosuccessfullyperform its functionsandmeet itsoutcomes, it must maintainthetrustandconfidenceofthepublic and theAustralianGovernment.

TomaintaintheintegrityofSafeWorkAustraliaasanAustralianGovernmentstatutory agency, theagencywill:

a)Enterintosponsorshiparrangementswithappropriateindividualsor organisationsasdeterminedbytheChiefExecutiveOfficer

b)Onlyenter intosponsorshiparrangementswherethereisno actual, potential or apparentconflict ofinterest that may compromisetheway SafeWorkAustraliastaffperform their duties, or gives theperceptionofcompromise

c)Enterintosponsorshiparrangementswhereitconsiderstheretobeno real or impliedendorsementofacommercial productorservice

d)Ensurethat sponsorshipsarecentrallycoordinated toavoid repeatedrequestsbyanyoneorganisation.

SafeWorkAustraliawillbecautiousabout enteringanysponsorshiparrangement that maypotentiallyexposetheagencytorisks including, but not limitedto:

•creatingactual, potential or apparent conflictsofinterests(e.g.sponsoringbusinesses that arelikelytotender forfuturecontracts)

•persons who mayusethesponsorshiparrangement toinfluencegovernment, publicpolicyor for anyotherpurposedetrimentaltoSafeWorkAustralia’sroleor image,and

•associationsorbodieswithpolitical objectivesor affiliations.

All proposalsforsponsorshipwill besubject totheapproval oftheChief Executive Officer.

Legalandpolicyissues

As sponsorshipsinvariablyinvolveacommitmentofSafeWorkAustralia resources, Safe Work Australia will consider thefollowinglegislativeandpolicy requirementswhenassessingsponsorshipproposals:

Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, and

•CommonwealthGrants Rules andGuidelines.

Our sponsorship agreements will ordinarily include clauses concerning the following:

•That the individuals or organisations that Safe Work Australia agrees to sponsor understand and agree to uphold the APS Values, and

•requiring persons or organisations sponsored by Safe Work Australia to have any promotional materials containing Safe Work Australia’s branding approved by the agency.

Sponsorship criteria

Messagealignment –Theorganisation,individualorevent requestingsponsorship must becommittedtoworkhealthandsafety.Itwill beseenfavourably if theindividual,eventorprogram isfocusedonaSafeWorkAustraliaprioritye.g. an action area, priority industry or priority disorder under the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022; work health and safety legislative developments etc.

Targetaudience–Thesponsorshipshouldbeviableand relevant toSafeWork Australia’sprimarytarget audiences.It is preferable if the event has a national focus.

Leveragability–Thesponsorshipshouldpresent multipleopportunitiestodeliver key messagestoour target audienceinawaythatis innovativeandhasimpact.

Exclusivity– Inmost cases,itisa relevant considerationifotherwork healthandsafetyor workers’ compensation government bodiesare involvedwith thesponsorship.

Timing–For minor sponsorships, SafeWorkAustraliarequiresproposalstobe receivedataminimumof four weeksprior tothecommencementof theproposed event/program.

For majorsponsorships, asaminimum, proposalsmustbereceived threemonthsprior tothecommencement oftheevent/program. Proposals receivedunder theminimumlead timesspecified,maynotbeconsidered.

•Descriptionandobjectivesoftheproject/event

•WhyyoubelieveSafeWorkAustraliahasanaffinity withyourproject/event

•Historyoftheproject/eventanddetailsof relevantpartiesinvolved,includingexperience

•Benefitstothecommunity

•Targetaudienceoftheevent

•Thesponsorshipoptionsavailableincludingthe costsandbenefitsof eachoption

•Specificdates, venues,eventsandother relevant information

•Other sponsorsandtheproposedrelationshipwithSafeWorkAustralia, including exclusivityprovisions

•Marketingorpromotional plansfor theproject/eventincluding timelines

•Managementof thesponsorshipandreporting mechanisms

•Majorsourcesof funding,and

•Methodofevaluating thesuccessof thesponsorshipagainstitsobjectives.
