Suyeon Kang, violin
Australian violinist Suyeon Kang is currently undertaking her Konzertexamen degree at the Hochschule für Musik Berlin ‘Hanns Eisler’ studying with Professor Antje Weithaas, under whom she completed her Master of Music with honours in 2015.

In 2015, Kang was awarded 1st prize at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition (New Zealand) as well as securing the audience prize. Other international competition successes include major and/or special prizes at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (2014), International Music Competition Bayreuth ‘Pacem in Terris’ (2014), 2nd International Violin Competition Buenos Aires (2012); Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition (2010); and the International Leopold Mozart Violin Competition (2009). At the age of 16, shortly before relocating to Germany, she was the Grand Prize winner of Australia’s most prestigious award: the Symphony Australia ABC Young Performer’s Awards.

As soloist with orchestra in competitions and concerts she has appeared with the Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchester, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Teatro Colon Symphony Orchestra, Euro-Asian Philhamornic and many of the major Australian orchestras (Melbourne, Queensland, Tasmanian, Canberra, Orchestra Victoria).
Alongside her solistic endeavours she is a passionate chamber musician and is frequently sought out for various festivals in Europe. In 2014 she was selected to participate in the prestigious ‘Chamber Music Connects the World’ in Kronberg, Germany, collaborating with artists such as Gidon Kremer, Christian Teztlaff, Steven Isserlis and. In 2015 she appeared next to Lukas Hagen, Clemens Hagen, Hannah Weinmeister, in the first edition of the Montecastelli Chamber Music Festival, Italy.

She has appeared as guest assistant concertmaster with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester (DSO, Berlin), and has previously been invited to play in leading positions with Ensemble Kontraste (Nürnberg), Deutsche Mozartsolisten (Bamberg), the Euro-Asian Philharmonic (South Korea) and the Wanderoper Berlin. Since 2008 she has also been a member of the European chamber orchestra ‘Spira Mirabilis’, based in Italy. She also taught at the ‘Humilitas Masterclasses’ in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Her first CD will be produced under the Atoll label in 2016, including works by Schubert, Bloch and Bartok.
