Reporting to Co-Presidents:

Grade level liaisons – Act as a point of contact for parent questions and communicate Sutton information throughout the year. Coordinate social opportunities for fellow parents throughout the school year, including grade level coffees at the beginning of the year.

Reporting to VP Communications:

Bulletin Boards – Maintain the 2 PTA bulletin boards throughout the year, including checking all bulletin boards before open house.

Directory – Coordinate information to be included in Sutton directory

Lead Feeder School Liaison – manage the information to go out to feeder school liaisons.

Elementary school liaisons – responsible for relaying information to our feeder school PTAs.

Photography – capture images at SMS events to be used for social media, public relations, The Sutton Source, the yearbook, etc.

Public Relations/Media Relations – develop and implement strategic media relations program to secure positive news coverage of SMS and increase our school’s visibility in the community.

Social Media – develop and maintain SMS social media sites.

Speaker Series – organize 3-4 speakers on subjects that appeal to our parents for PTA meetings throughout the school year.

Yearbook – work with yearbook vendor and SMS faculty members in planning a layout strategy, coordinate photography submissions, and coordinate volunteers for editing.

Reporting to VP of Community/Parent Involvement:

Curb Appeal – plant and maintain planters outside of school.

Diversity Outreach – plan events or educational opportunities that celebrate diversity in our SMS community and around the world. Diversity Committee'spurpose is to provide leadership in building trusting, mutually respectfulrelationships amongst all members of the Sutton Community.The committee finds ways to support our diverse families and reinforce the value that our diversity makes us stronger!

Language Access/interpretation – help the PTA to translate forms/documents; help needed predominantly in summer and beginning of the school year.

Sunshine Committee – Coordinate purchase and delivery of cards for SMS families and staff.

Special Education Parent Support – represent those interested in and receiving special education services. Coordinate communication within the school, assist parents in strengthening student learning, and help include students with disabilities in all aspects of school life.

Teacher Appreciation – Plan and coordinate special events for SMS teachers and staff throughout the school year including back to school lunch, holiday lunch, and events for teacher appreciation week.

Teacher Birthdays – Plan and coordinate small gifts to be given to teachers for their birthday month.

Volunteers Coordinator - Get interested parents signed up on our PTA google doc volunteer form and then distribute volunteer contact lists to committee chairs as needed throughout the year.

Reporting to VP of Student Affairs:

IB Coordinator – support the SMS IB coordinator.

Teacher Grants – evaluate and vet teacher grant applications and make recommendations to the PTA board.

Sports Coordinator – PTA Sports - works closely with our two athletic directors to help oversee the 22 Sutton sports teams. This involves setting the budget for each team, communicating with coaches and their team parents, coordinating team yearbook photos with photography chair, and helping with team needs. It is a year-round position with the bulk of the work done in August-September.

Sports Coordinator – Intramural sports – works with Melanie Burdis, intramural Athletic Director, on intramural teams.

Reporting to VP of Events:

Annual Fund Donor Party – plans and organizes this event for early spring.

Open House – plans and organizes events at both campuses for new student orientation with administration; coordinate PTA, sports, and clubs.

PTA Welcome Packet (aka Big Envelope) – Coordinate information to be given to SMS families at the beginning of the school year.

We Are Sutton for rising 6th -plans and organizes this event in April.

Prospective Parent Social – plans and organizes this event in the fall.

Skate Party for rising 6th – plans and organizes this event in January.

Rising 6th Grade Social – plans and organizes an event for rising 6th graders in August to get to know each other; see old friends, reestablish acquaintances already made through sports, clubs, etc., and meet new friends.

8th grade Committees –

Liaison – in addition to description above under grade level liaisons, responsible for budget setting for all functions supporting 8th grade transition and managing other 8th grade committee chairs.

Treasurer – responsible for setting up PayPal 8th Grade Account, collecting all 8th Grade Participation Fees and working with Treasurer to deposit funds. An overall budget should be provided to the 8th grade team and PTA Board based on previous year budget and new funding requirements.

North Atlanta Liaison – work with North Atlanta team to coordinate and communicate the following events: NAHS Monthly Tours, NAHS Coffee Talk, Heading North, IB/AP Review Night, North Atlanta Now, NAHS Scheduling Night and NAHS Rising 9th Grade Happy Hour

Dance – plans and organizes event in May including DJ, theme, menu, vendors, and volunteers

Field Day – Work with teachers and administrations to coordinate vendors for Field Day, coordinate parent volunteers, and communicate with parents and students regarding the event. Event is usually held near the end of the year.

Field Trips – work with 8th Grade Principal, Teachers, and Parent Liaison regarding quarterly field trips and final 8th Grade Trip. Will need to provide communications to parents regarding details and volunteer requirements. Final 8th Grade Trip is usually at the end of May. Communications should go out regarding this trip by early December.

Promotion – works closely with 8th grade liaison to collaborate with administration in how the PTA can support this event.

Hospitality – provide food and/drinks at PTA sponsored events and the NAPPS meeting held at SMS.

Fall Musical – continue to foster our IB relationship with North Atlanta HS, coordinate committees for selecting a production, setting a schedule, public relations, advertising, ticket sales, rehearsals, and more. Chairs are responsible for grooming members for the next school year.

Sutton Showcase – Coordinate committees for talent acquisition, public relations, advertising, ticket sales, rehearsals, catering, and more. Chairs are responsible for grooming team members for the next school year.

Parent/Teacher Social – plans and organizes two events (Fall and Spring).

Sutton Golf Invitational – organizes volunteers and promotes event.

Reporting to VP of Fundraising:

Annual Fund – prepare a campaign to be rolled out at Open House/COL that runs throughout the school year. Work with various PTA committees to present to parents what the annual fund supports and why they should be a part of it.

Boxtops and Coke Rewards – promote these fundraisers and organize prizes (through partner relationships) for top participants.

Chastain Parking (4 chairs) – help support Sutton’s biggest PTA fundraiser! Organize volunteers to staff the 6th grade campus parking lot for Chastain Amphitheater concerts from April – October. Duties will be shared by the 4 chairs in whatever way fits their schedules best; position includes setting up and managing signup genius, recruiting volunteers for concerts, meeting volunteers before concerts start, and collecting and depositing funds after concerts. Existing chairs have great ideas for next year and will provide transition and training this spring.

Community Partners & Directory Ads – call on local businesses to set up business partnerships with SMS to help offset costs for events/projects throughout the year.

School Store & Spiritwear(school store at both campuses) – order, sell, and manage inventory at the school store and attend and sell at special events; 5th grade skating party, Open House/COL, 6th grade social. School Store is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45-9:10am.
