  • Campus visit last week went great. Thank you all for the feedback.
  • We are finished with ACCESS testing. Thank you Mr. Bewley for all your support.
  • Fourth grade students took the NAEP. The students worked hard and did their best.

Concerns

  • I understand we cannot change the new lice protocol. However, why can’t we have a class head check when at least one student in a class has had lice? –– one student does not make an outbreak. We follow CDC and Department of health guidelines
  • In the kindergarten common core standards reading and wrting, prompt and support, can they read during promt and support –

Karla Buchanan, El Capitan

  • Reading week next week, reading fair Wednesday, reading night Thursday night.

Brian Hardin, Goddard

Jamie Furney, Mesa

  • A big “Thank you” to Dr. Northrup for the grant that was written that gave us a brand new set of Chromebooks and cart.

Hope Morales/Manuel Garcia, Military Heights

Happenings at MHE-

  • UVA Campus visit went great. We had a great discussion about current practices and ideas to use in the future.
  • Reading Night- Students participate in a variety of activities and games at our Reading Night. The book took place the same week and was open during Reading Night.
  • We are continuing to celebrate a “Teacher of the Week.” Staff and students really seem to enjoy this new practice.
  • We are organizing our technology and schedules to prepare for upcoming testing.

Questions-

  • Can the district provide support for students with excessive tardies? We are trying to be creative with different incentives and communicating with parents and keeping them updated on the number of student tardies.Mr. Tackett – unfortunately there is not, the state does not recognize tardies. What you do at the school level is the best we can do. It is up to the building principal and leadership team. Send any ideas to Mr. Tackett to look at and review.

STA Updates-

  • A variety of one-page documents are being created for teachers to have as a resource on topics like: the growth model, CCSS supports, businesses offering teacher discounts, and differences between observation levels.
  • STA will be open to new members, if you have someone you would like to nominate, please email me. New members will be introduced at the Teacher Summit.
  • No movement with NM Teach Policy committee recommendations on teacher evaluation system (increase absences to 6 days, reduce student achievement to 35%, and require 2 walkthroughs for each formal observation).
  • Current bills in legislation would cut all funding for the PPP grant and the $100 debit card, will keep you updated.

Amy Ashlyn,Missouri Avenue

  • Our library received over 300 books from the GO BOND money! Yea!
  • Student Council collected 1,309 items of food for The Homeless Coalition of Roswell.
  • Teachers are feeling that parent/teacher conferences went very well.
  • Could we please bring up the concern of not feeding kids breakfast on 2 hour delays? I understand that it is hard to do, but because we work at a low income school many of students parents can’t or don’t feed them breakfast on school mornings. On this last two delay, over half my class came in looking for breakfast and were disappointed that there was none. I managed to find some snacks for them to eat, but if would have been nice if we would have at least had cereal. I am not asking for hot breakfast, but I am asking if the school district could just even supply a small snack on two delays for all the elementary schools that are the majority free lunch program.Susan Sanchez – We will forward the concern to Lyman Graham. Maybe a letter can be sent out to remind parents.

Carrie Jurecek/Bernadette Aragon, Monterrey

  • We are concerned about the Principals interviews. We want some assurance that the interview committee will have a say in who is placed at our school. There are rumors running rampant about prior “agendas” and individuals being “placed” without interviews. Please allow the interview committees to make those decisions on behalf of our schools.
  • Will we have full time counselors? Some schools have a very large enrollment and have a part-time counselor who is split between two schools. It would be beneficial to have a full time counselor to be available daily for any situation that may arise.Brandy Sameull – will look at large and small schools not choice. We have had a counselor job posted for 18 months with only 5 applicants and a few of them were not qualified.

Cortney Busby, Mt. View

Delta

-The high schools came to complete a career aptitude test with our students without letting us know in advance. As a result, teachers lost a day of instruction that was not planned for until students were pulled out. Would it be possible to know in advance?Susan Sanchez – so many dates came as directives and went based on the calendar. Will work with Dr. Romero, will continue to work on communication.

Questions

-We completed a survey for our building administrators. Will we be completing another administrator survey through the district that will allow us to enter comments? Tamie Pargas – do you want a survey for building administrators or AESC administrators? Mt. View will get clarification before the next SAC meeting
