Faculty members have already begun working to outdo its 2008 “Relay for Life” contribution of (approximately) $2,000! Hand-knitted dish clothes and hand-made quilted potholders are currently being sold for $10 each as a contribution to the American Cancer Society. Several faculty members and parents have been working VERY hard to make these items, most of which include the cancer ribbon. So far, the group has raised over $400 – which will go toward our 2009 “Relay for Life” fund. Anyone interested in helping to make or purchasing any of the dish cloths or potholders, please see Kay Burnett or Kellee Shuttleworth at JES.

January Music Notes from Mrs. Kuhn

Happy New Year to all! Ithas been a great school year. Time has flown by and we have had a

lot of interesting things happen thus far. The dulcimer group from Fairmont gave a very interesting

folk instrument program for the upper grades; first grade presented a Thanksgiving program for

parents and third, fourth and fifth graders had opportunities to be a part of a musical program and everyone gathered together for our annual Holiday Get-together in the cafeteria. Kindergarten

and second graders will be giving programs in the future for the P.T.A..

We will be focusing on early American music and patriotic music again. Studentswill work on music terms and definitions (crossword puzzles) and various types of songs from their newmusic books in class.

All-State Chorus is in January and I cansend three students this year. Auditions will take place at school the first full week of school in January.

We will continue working with dulcimers and glockenspiels. Nathan Caruthers, my student teacher

from A-B College, will be with us for six weeks after the holidays. We hope to have each class write

their own poem, song and accompaniment during that time. Hopefully we can use someof the original

songs ina program for parents.

Again, I want to wish everyone a very happy, prosperous and healthy new year!!!!!
