Target Audience

This program has been designed for physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, physician assistants, professional nurses, advanced practice nurses, administrators in the medical specialties of surgery.

Series Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Participate in the peer review process for surgery as required by accrediting entities
  • Describe new trends and therapeutic modalities in surgery today
  • Identify alternate methods in which complications can be intervened to avoid future problems and errors
  • Recognize and discuss surgical complications, the associated pathophysiology, and the management therefore, including medico-legal ramifications

Accreditation

Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Nurses: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Nursing Education, Innovation and Professional Development is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Designation of Credit

Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: Nurse participants will be awarded 1.25 contact hour.
