Job Description: Business Development Manager

Conditions: 30- 37 hours per week (negotiable)

Pay: NJC Scale pt37: £32,486pa (pro rata) 5% Employer Pension Contribution

Holiday 25 days pa (pro rata) + 11 statutory days.

Job Purpose: To provide strategic leadership to Better Leeds Communities’ (BLC) business development activity, strengthening BLC’s reputation as a provider of quality services delivering positive outcomes for beneficiaries. To generate new business by developing robust business proposals, service delivery models and funding bids. Generate new income for BLC.

We want to achieve financial sustainability and growth by playing an even greater part in providing public services, reshaping expectations of what such services can look like and achieve.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To deliver BLC’s Funding Strategy
  • To build relationships with key decision makers and influencers
  • To win significant new business – £200k in first year
  • To prepare creative, tailored, consultative and needs focused proposals and delivery models for commissioners and funders.
  • To research and identify business opportunities and relationships key to future growth.
  • To initiate and develop partnerships/ consortia with other organisations to support the delivery of project proposals.
  • To work collaboratively with the CEO, Directors and staff to develop and implement a business strategy that is informed by intelligence regarding relationships and opportunities; leading to functional business growth.
  • Demonstrate how client need has been identified and how our projects will contribute to the wider outcomes funders and commissioners want to see evidenced
  • To prototype activities, develop new, income generating services and make recommendations as to how the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of existing services can be improved.
  • To lead on business development activity as agreed with the CEO including bid formulation and submission. This includes seeking to secure sustainability for the work through winning contracts and/or successful fundraising so that we are able to have a long lasting positive impact on our beneficiaries.
  • Work with the senior management team to ensure that our outcomes and impact measuring tools fulfil our ambition to demonstrate impact and Social return on Investment to future funders and other stakeholders.
  • To maintain a high level of knowledge of relevant developments in the external environment that impact on both practice and business development opportunities and build effective relationships across stakeholders.
  • To advise the CEO as required, on developments in BLC’s areas of activities and the implications for organisational strategy and policy.
  • Ensure that all communications are consistent with organisational strategy, decisions, policies and standards.
  • To contribute to the delivery of electronic communication, including the development the BLC website and social media.
  • To analyse and present information to a variety of audiences, including BLC Trustees and other stakeholders, and to action any feedback as appropriate.
  • To achieve personal and team income targets and other agreed objectives.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements are met and observe agreed policies on child safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality etc.
  • Undertake relevant training as agreed though the supervision process.
  • Actively support and promote the principals of equal opportunities.
  • Other duties appropriate to the grade of the post, and relevant to its purpose, as required or instructed.
