Mustangs Team Letter 2016-2017

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome back to school! We all look forward to working with you this year! This letter discusses the basic behavior standards and required materials that will apply to all four team classes: English, History, Science, and Math. We hope to see you all at Back-to-School night on Thursday, September 1st.

Team activities –In order to participate in any team activities, including field trips, students must have a 2.0 GPA during the grading period of the activity. Additionally, students will not be allowed to attend if they receive a comment regarding disruptive behaviorin the comment code section of their grade report from two or more teachers.

Basic Class Rules – Additional rules for specific classes (i.e. science lab safety rules) will be explained by that teacher.

1. BE READY!This means being in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.

2. BE RESPECTFUL! This means that when your teacher, or anyone else is speaking, you do not talk or shout out. In addition, there are to be no cell phones, iPods, or electronic devices visible or audible in the classroom. If used inappropriately, they will be confiscated and must be claimed from the office at the end of the school day.

3. BE PREPARED! This means having all necessary supplies and books every day, including an appropriate book for RELAX.

Consequences –

  1. A verbal warning.
  2. Teacher-student conference.
  3. Call to parent or guardian.
  4. Referral to administration/ teacher class suspension.
  5. Loss of team activity privilege.

NOTE: some actions may warrant immediate referrals outside of the classroom.

Dress code - Our team enforces the Sierra Vista Dress Code, which you can find a copy of in your student’s Binder Reminder.

Homework, absences and tests - Homework will be assigned regularly in all classes. If you are not seeing your child doing homework on a regular basis, please EMAIL us immediately – there IS a problem! Students should write their homework assignments (including writing “no homework” if that is appropriate), in their binder reminder every day. The daily homework in their English class is almost always to read their SRC book.

If your child is absent, it is his or her responsibility to get missing assignments either by calling a friend, checking the teacher’s website, emailing the teacher, or by asking the teacher the next day. Students do have one day for each day they have an excused absence. Students should be mindful that if they return to school the day of an assignment or test, and were aware of this prior to their absence, they are expected to make up the test/quiz and/or turn in the assignment upon return.

Cheating

For tests, any form of communication, as perceived by the teacher, at any time during the testing period, will be considered cheating and the student will receive a zero. During tests, students should ask only the teacher for assistance. Please be advised that MustangsTeam teachers also consider it to be cheating if students are copying other students’ assignments (regardless if it’s a test and regardless if it’s for another class).
