SUPPORTING VULNERABLE FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN
The Solihull Approach:
Two-day foundation course ‘The First Five Years’: March 2011, Inverness
The First Five Years foundation course will run in Inverness in March 2011, as part of developing practice for effective early interventions to support families. The first few years of life are now widely recognized as having a crucial impact on a child’s long-term wellbeing. This training has been commissioned as part of developing early years and parenting support services in Highland. The course will run three times, giving 36 places.
The First Five Years is delivered by NHS Solihull Care Trust
It is an integrated model of working, an open learning resource pack and a training programme for care professionals working with families with babies and children who are affected by emotional and behavioural difficulties. A key element is that professionals explore how to help parents view their own difficulties objectively and take the lead in finding practical solutions. Each participant receives ‘The First Five Years’ resource pack to keep. Please note this training is not designed to equip you to run a parenting group, although it provides a valuable basis.
Target:
Public Health Nurses/Health Visitors; Children’s Services Workers (Early Years); Community Nursery Nurses; Primary Mental Health Workers; Professionals in family support organisations.
Places will be allocated to produce a distribution across geographical areas and professions. To help support learning and the use of the Solihull Approach in practice, applicants are encouraged to consider:
- applying to attend as a pair with a colleague
- applying if a colleague undertook the samecourse in 2009
Course details:
This course comprises 2 days training, a fortnight apart. Participants receive a certificate of attendance, on completion. The course fee, which includes a light lunch, is met by NHS Highland/Highland Council.
