Since 1992 the UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC), in Osaka, Japan, has promoted the application of environmentally sound technologies in order to help developing countries and countries in transition to achieve sustainable development. IETC is a branch of UNEP’s Division of Technology, Industry and Economics and its programme is currently focused on waste management including through capacity-building, demonstration projects, guidance materials and research and policy analysis.

This event discusses some of IETC’s waste management activities and their contribution to the implementation of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions, including the development of national waste management strategies (NWMS), the proposed global waste management outlook, and a new proposal on used lead-acid batteries (ULABs).

BCRCsare quite active on waste management issues in different parts of the world, particularly on Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). This event will also allow BCRCS to share their advances and challenges on the environmentally sound management of WEEE, including Used Lead Acid Batteries.
