Supported Learning Pathways

Whether you’ve left school with low GCSE grades, have no formal qualifications, or have learning difficulties and/or disabilities, our Pathways programmes have been designed to provide you with all of the support you need to progress through your studies at college.

Our courses

There are four Pathways for you to choose from. The Pathways allow you to progress through our levels of study, starting at Entry Level 1, working through Entry Level 2 and 3 up to Level 1.

Connects(Entry Level 1 and 2)

For 16-18 and 19+ learners with learning difficulties and disabilities. You will develop your skills in English, maths, ICT and personal and social development so you’re ready to progress onto our Entry 2 Pathways course.

Adult Enterprise(Entry Level 2 , 3 and Level 1)

For learners aged 19+ with learning difficulties and disabilities. You will develop your English, maths and ICT skills so you’re ready to progress onto other courses.

Entry 2(Entry Level 2)

You will improve your key skills and personal and social development, so you’re ready to progress to an Entry Links course or another college course

Entry Links(Entry Level 3)

You will develop your key skills and take part in taster sessions in vocational areas such as:building and natural environment, care, creative arts, hair & beauty, health and fitness, hospitality, ICT, media, performing arts, retail andbusiness. You can then progress to other college courses.

Support

We make sure that group sizes remain small and we give you loads of support and encouragement to grow your confidence, independence and self-esteem. You can try out lots of different things and get a taste of which direction you’d like your future to take – most of all we want you to progress and achieve your ambitions, make friends and enjoy your time here.

Facilities

You’ll have the opportunity to visit our campuses to access our excellent facilities and enjoy work-based learning in a range of settings. We’ll also support you in achieving your dream ambitions, whether this is progressing to employment, starting an Apprenticeship, or into further and maybe higher education. During your time with us you’ll develop great life skills, employability skills and undertake practical job-related training.

Based mainly at ncn Basford Hall, we have well-equipped libraries and IT facilities, access to vocational studies and two multi-purpose vehicles which we use for training to promote independent travel. We also have ramps, lifts and induction loops installed at all our major campuses.

CONNECTS PATHWAYS

Connects PATHWAY – Entry LEVEL 1

1 year - ncn Basford campus

You’ll need: to be16-18 or 19+. You don’t need any formal qualifications. You will meet with a tutor and complete a short assessment to ensure you start on the right course for you.

Perfect if: you are looking to improve your personal independence and social skills as well as literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. This course has been specifically designed to enable learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to access qualifications that will develop and improve their learning experience.

You’ll learn: about independence, social and community skills as well as literacy, numeracy and ICT and take part in a range of exciting options and enrichment skills.

You can expect: both tutor and additional learning support in a friendly and engaging learning environment.

What’s next: progression within the Connect Pathways and to the Enterprise or Entry 2 Pathways.

Connects PATHWAY – Entry LEVEL 2

1 year - ncn Basford campus

You’ll need: to be16-18 or 19+. You don’t need any formal qualifications. You will meet with a tutor and complete a short assessment to ensure you start on the right course for you.

Perfect if: you are looking to progress your personal and social development and employability skills as well as literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. This course provides progression from Connect Entry 1 and allows learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to continue to Entry 2 qualifications in a continued supportive environment.

You’ll learn: about independence, social and employability skills as well as literacy, numeracy and ICT and take part in a range of exciting options and enrichment skills.

You can expect: both tutor and additional learning support in a friendly and engaging learning environment.

What’s next: progression to the Enterprise Entry 3 or Link Entry 3Pathways.

ADULT ENTERPRISE PATHWAYS

ADULT ENTERPRISE PATHWAY - ENTRY 2

1 year - ncn Basford

You’ll need: a willingness to learn and work towards entry level maths and English.

Perfect if: you are an adult with learning disabilities and/ or learning difficulties who want to gain skills into employment, enterprise (making your own money) and/ or a greater independence of living while gaining confidence and meeting new people. The course is also ideal for adults who have been out of education or have had a negative experience in education, to help develop and better themselves at their own pace.

You’ll learn: about independent living, catering, creativity, teamwork, gardening, creative ICT skills and Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT.

You can expect: fantastic facilities and a friendly learning environment.

What’s next: further study at ncn on Entry 3 Adult Enterprise and/ or employment.

ADULT ENTERPRISE PATHWAY - ENTRY 3

1 year - ncn Basford

You’ll need: to be 19 or over and will need an Entry 2 vocational qualification and a willingness to work towards the next entry level in maths and English.

Perfect if: you are an adult with learning disabilities and/ or learning difficulties who wants to gain skills into employment, enterprise (making your own money) and/ or a greater independence of living, while helping to build confidence, meet new people and enhance your own life experience.

You’ll learn: about independent living, teamwork creativity, catering, gardening, creative ICT skills and Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT.

You can expect: fantastic facilities and a friendly learning environment.

What’s next: further study at ncn on a Level 1 Adult Enterprise, Level 1 Vocational and/ or employment.

ADULT ENTERPRISE PATHWAY - LEVEL 1

1 year - ncn Basford campus

You’ll need: to be 19 or over and will need an Entry level qualification in maths and English and an Entry level 3 in a vocational qualification. Plus you’ll need lots to motivation to succeed and have fun.

Perfect if: you are an adult with learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties and you want to move into employment or progress onto a level 2 vocational qualification and need some additional support to achieve this.

You’ll learn: skills for a number of vocational sectors including land based, catering, enterprise, creative and ICT plus Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT.

You can expect: fantastic facilities and a friendly learning environment.

What’s next: further study at ncn on a Level 2 vocational qualification and/ or employment.

eNTRY 2 pathways

ENTRY 2 PATHWAY - LEVEL 1

1 year - ncn Basford

You may have had a difficult time at school but want to grow in confidence, meet new people and gain some formal qualifications in Maths, English and ICT. Don’t worry if you have no qualifications from school because college will be a fresh, new start for you.

You’ll need: Awillingness to learn and work towards entry level maths and English. We will assess your English and maths level and you will have a chance to ask us questions about the course when we meet with you before enrolment. This course is suitable for 16-18 year old students.

Perfect if: you want to improve your reading, writing and Maths so that you can progress to higher courses and eventually employment.

You can expect: lots of support and encouragement whilst you complete internal and external tests, and your coursework.

ENTRY links pATHWAYS

ENTRY links pATHWAYS – ENTRY 3

1 year - ncn Basford campus,

Suitable for: All young people with a good entry 3 level of education and the motivation to achieve. You do not require any initial qualifications but will have to complete a short assessment and an interview to ensure you are on the correct course for progression to level 1 or level 2 programmes of learning.

Perfect if: You are unsure of your ideal career, would like to enhance your education and qualifications and improve your confidence to progress to a level 1 programme of study or employment.

You’ll achieve: Functional skills in maths, English and ICT, research enterprise skills and complete a vocational qualification from a choice of these introductory sessions:

You can expect: A friendly, supportive, fun learning environment; lots of research to support independent thinking skills; support with career planning and introduction to small businesses plus a big push to improve your academic skills ready for progression and employment.

What’s next: It’s your choice and you will be supported with progress to a level 1 or level 2 course or employment.
