About Tamba

Tamba has been in existence for over 30 years and is the largest charity of its kind in the world. We provide support, help and advice to 10,000s of families each year. A multiple Birth pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy which can lead to complications for mother and babies. The NHS produced NICE guideline (129) on best practice for a multiple birth in 2011. Sadly our research has found too few units are implementing this guidance. Coupled with the government’s commitment to reducing the stillbirth rate and as part of our current strategic plan, we have decided to address this by working more closely with maternity units and we need someone to help. For instance, a multiple birth pregnancy will face much higher risks during pregnancy and birth with an almost 50:50 chance that one or more babies will end up in neonatal care, and an increased risk of stillbirth. Our mothers face twice the likelihood of developing postnatal depression, can find themselves isolated and experience higher rates of relationship breakdown. Mothers find it harder to return to work and our families tend to have less disposable income and a considerable proportion experience real material hardship.
