Restless Development is the youth-led development agency focused on putting young people at the forefront of change and development. We see young people as the solution to the serious and persistent problems of our world, not tomorrow, today. We now have a physical presence in 11 countries worldwide and provide support and expertise for organisations in many more.

Our International ProgrammesUnit (based in London) offers a variety of ways for young people to get involved including International Placements, Advocacy & Campaigning, and Global Citizenship programmes. Restless Development is the national concept owner of a project called dance4life in the UK which is the project the Youth Engagement Intern will be focusing on during their internship.dance4life is an innovative, international project empowering young people to take action in the face of the global HIV pandemic.dance4life informs young people about HIV transmission and the realities of HIV in the UK and in a global context; motivating young people to take action through popular culture.
A considerable proportion of dance4life’s work in run through schools/youth groups therefore our relationships with teachers/youth workers are very important. The Youth Engagement Intern’s role will have a strong focus on dance4life within these institutions with the aim of maximising the impact of dance4life within schools/youth groups and therefore on the young people we engage.

A passionate individual who believes in the potential of dance4life and Restless Development
Desirable
Previous voluntary experience
Experience of working with youth practitioners i.e. teachers/youth workers
Experience of working with young people
A resourceful individual able to work in a busy and often pressurised environment
Undergraduate degree
Main Duties /
  • Support and recruit dance4life schools and youth groups
  • Create a school engagement plan
  • Create resources for teachers/youth workers
  • Ensure the monitoring and evaluation of relationships between the dance4life team and teachers/youth workers

Time: 30%

/ Support and recruit dance4life schools and youth groups
  • Provide regular communication between the dance4life team and schools/youth groups
  • Recruit schools and youth groups for our annual School Workshop Tour
  • Ensure up to date understanding of what dance4life can offer schools/youth groups
  • Support teachers/youth workers to support their young people to take action with dance4life

Time: 25% / Create a school engagement plan
  • Research into current school and youth group engagement
  • Working with the Youth Engagement Team, lead on creating a school engagement plan including how to gain access to more schools, increase diversity of schools, a teacher/youth worker communications plan etc.

Time: 25% / Create resources for teachers/youth workers
Working with the Youth Engagement Team, lead on the content for:
  • regular short assemblies for teachers/students to run in schools
  • a handbook for teachers about dance4life
  • a handbook for young people about dance4life
  • teachers packs on specific issues or events that dance4life are promoting

Time:15% / Ensure the monitoring and evaluation of dance4life-teacher/youth worker relationships
  • Ensure consistent and thorough monitoring of communications between the dance4life team and teachers/youth workers
  • Ensure good monitoring of actions taken by schools/youth groups
  • Provide evaluations of relationships i.e. why levels of engagement differ

Time 5% / Other Duties
Other duties as required, potentially requiring occasional work on weekends for which time off in lieu can be taken.
