Staffing
Mr Bates our school Site Manager will be leaving us after Easter. He has been offered an exciting new project which involvesgearshift control units for motorbikes and racing cars and could even involve some trips abroad so he will be swapping Smalley for sunnier climes! Mr Bates has been a great support through some major projects over the last 5 years including the new reception playground and new classroom build in 2014/15.
He has a lovely personality and is always positive and happy and I know that the staff and I will miss him, especially hearing him sing around school. I will also miss our chats about golf! I know he will keep in touch with the school and wish him all the very best in the future.
Smalley Ball
Our first ever ball was a huge success and has raised over £2000 for the school. I was incredibly disappointed to miss it but was cheered up on my sick bed by all the positive text messages, tweets, pictures and videos telling me what a wonderful time everyone was having.
A huge thank you to all who attended, Morley Hayes, our sponsors, the band and to Steve Boxall for being a superb host for our auction.
Massive thanks also to the team of staff who organised the event; Mrs Hull, Mrs Hudson, Mrs Mason, Mrs Evans, Mrs Shaw and Miss Tulley for the lovely cakes!
I am hopeful that there will be a ‘Smalley Ball 2’ next year so that I can sample the atmosphere myself.
TeachMeet
The school hosted a TeachMeet this week which was well attended by over 80 staff from 14 different schools as well as members of the local authority. It was hosted by the fantastic international speaker Andy Cope and then we had opportunities for staff to share good practice for either 2 or 6 minutes with a gorgeous buffet in between provided by our sponsors Teacher Active. It was a wonderful event and you can see more on our website.
Community News
Three of our parents are running the London Marathon this year. Having completed the course in 2004 I know just what an achievement this is and send our very best wishes from all at school for the coming weeks training and the race itself. Details are below of the very worthy charities should you want to sponsor them.
Steph and Chris Wass are fundraising for the British Lung Foundation in memory of her Dad. They will be doing the Derby 10k together, Amelia, Luke and other members of the family will be doing the 3K before Chris completes the Ashby 20 and London Marathon again in April. Good luck to the whole family and if you would like to sponsor them the link is below:
Finally, Jamie Eaton is planning to walk Hadrian’s wall which is an 85 mile route in a maximum of 5 days in April. Jamie has asked for all fundraising to go to Gold September in memory of our own Eddy Parry and has a sponsor form or it can be donated via the Gold September Website by clicking the donate button via Paypal. Good luck Jamie!

Thank you
Finally a huge thank you as always for all your help and support over this short but very busy Spring Term. I wish you all the very best for the Easter Break and look forward to seeing you all refreshed and raring to go for the Summer Term as we continue our pursuit of achieving our school vision to become ‘An outstanding school at the heart of the community.’
Yours Sincerely,
M. Crawford
