Fig. S1. Field design for evaluation of PvMYB4-overexpressing switchgrass plants. The field’s dimensions were 19.1 m × 16.8 m, which contained the transgenic and control plants in two ‘Alamo’-derived switchgrass parental clones: ST1 and ST2. Three replicates were included for each independent control and transgenic event, and four vegetatively-propagated clones were planted within each replicate. Each replicate was planted 152 cm apart with 76 cm spacing among the four plants clones within the replicate. The experimental plants were surrounded by border ‘Alamo’ plants. ST1 plants included four independent transgenic events (L1, L2, L6, L8) and three independent wild-type controls derived from tissue culture (ST1 CK-1, CK-2, CK-3). Event ST1-L2 was later identified to be chimeric for the transgene and was excluded from subsequent analyses. ST2 plants included five independent transgenic events (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E) and two independent vector controls (ST2 CK-1, CK-2).
