Note: This applies mainly to a “new start.” A new company which the owner/manager is not experienced probably needs to wait at least a sufficient period of time (year) before beginning government contracting in order to get established commercially (licenses, commercial customers, etc). However, time in business would not be a factor where a company had only changed ownership from individual or partnership to a corporation. In addition, a person may have worked in a strategic management position with another company where he/she gained technical skills that would have properly prepared him/her to begin government contracting in less than a year.

With the exception of b above, a response of “no” should not automatically preclude the company from becoming a MO PTAC client. However, the more “no” responses might identify areas that need attention prior to becoming involved in government contracting. “No” responses should be treated only as “indicators” in terms of potential anticipated success in government contracting. In addition, if the company does not have a business plan or marketing plan, refer the company to the servicing SBDC or B and I Specialist. However, not having a business plan or marketing plan should not preclude a company from becoming a MO PTAC client.
