Sunshine is back in the Engadin and we honer the clear winner of the Kitefoil Goldcup at the Engadinwind 2014 – John Heineken, USA
The best Kitfoilers oft he world from 15 nations traveled up to the Engadin for the second stop of the Kitefoil Goldcup world tour. In the last few days we did 9 races on the Lake Silvaplana. Winner with seven victories is the vice Worldchampion from the US John Heineken. At the second place is the actual European Champion and winner of the last years Engadin marathon Olly Bridge from Great Britain. At the 3rd Place finished Nicolas Parlier, France with the same score but less victory races.
The best women is the current European Champion Steph Bridge from Great Britain. The „Bridge Family“ is one more time realy successful at that Kitefoil Goldcup. At Saturday 16th the junior World Champion Tom Bridge will show a freestyle session on lake Silvaplana with the 5 time World Champion and kite legend Aaron Hedlow from Great Britain
The Kitefoil Goldcup at the Engadin is the second tour stop of a new, up comming disciplin of kitsurfing what is showing a lot of atractiv action on the lake Silvaplana. The athlets do like flying with up to 40 km/h over the lake. The races are showing a lot of action and fights and also wonderfull images on the water.
The offical start of the windsurfing Swiss Championchip in formula racing and slalom. The best surfers are arrived in the Engadin. Worldchampions, olympic racers Swiss and German champions will fight for the Engadinwind trophies.
Last year, the board shaper and world cup racer Patrik Diethelm was able to win the slalom race ahed of the top German windsurfer Basti Kördel and the olympia racer Richard Stauffacher. This year we have to see if the same racer will be ahed of the rest. The yong racers are getting stronger and stronger and they will try to change that. At the women race is not clear for the moment if the world champion Karin Jaggi from Bern will try to defend the titel after the baby break time.
Also the formula race could get hot. Will Richard Stauffacher win again or will one of the yong swiss-italyen juniors take the titel away. It will be for sure also an interesting race with the windsurfers.
BEST of 3
Competing in the Best of 3 event is world champion and windsurfing legend Björn Dunkerbeck together with multiple German champion Basti Kördel and olympian Richard Stauffacher. Front runner of the sailors is olympian Philip Käsermann will try to be the first to beat the kite- and windsurfers in the disciplines of speed, slalom and racing. Kitesurfer Olly Bridge and Simone Vanucci will have different ideas for the outcome of the competition. They were last year’s victors in the Best of 3 rating.
Engadinwind Marathon 2014
England’s young kitesurfer Olly Bridge has already won the traditional Engadinwind Marathon twice in a row. Finishing second was kitesurfer Simone Vanucci and ranked third was Moth sailor Philip Käsermann. Windsurfers and kitesurfers will not let this rest on themselves and will attack like never before.
The Engadinwind competition is one of the most important water sports events in the world and will commence August 11th with the Kitefoil Goldcup. On the 16th of August the legendary Engadin Surf-, Kite- and Sailing Marathon will take place for the 37th time. The Marathon is the oldest windsurf regatta that takes place every year in the Engadin. It remains to be seen if the kitesurfers will continue to complete the 42 km race quicker than the windsurfers and sailors. The event on Lake Silvaplana will attract more than 200 athletes from various nations together with spectators and fans from all around. The beautiful region of Lake Silvaplana will cast its spell over the athletes and visitors once again.
