Sunray Peace Village Rules of Conduct

WELCOME! The Peace Village is our Sacred Home.

Please Enjoy the Land and One Other!!!

NO Guns, NO Alcohol, NO Drugs, NO Fireworks

Safety for Children

·  Children 7 and under need to be with their parents as there are potential hazards

·  Children 7 to 10 need to be within sight of their parents

·  All children need to stay away from road, laneways and parking lots

Pets:

·  No pets on land, especially during Elders or other events

·  In off season, if neighbours are walking their dogs, they need to be leashed for safety of wild animals and unexpected visitors

Water Hazards:

·  No swimming in Beaver Pond or stream

Drinking (Potable) Water:

·  Drinking water is provided at

o  The white hose on the Water Truck at end of Kitchen (during Elders Gathering)

o  At tap on side of yellow Temple building

o  Bottled water can be bought for $1.00 on porch of Community Hall

o  By boiling water from bathroom taps for at least 20 seconds

·  Water in Bathhouses in NOT Potable – do not drink it or use it for tooth brushing without first boiling 20 seconds

Motorized Vehicles:

·  Only in designed parking areas. Off load your camping gear into carts to take into camping area

·  Exceptions – disability pass, delivery vehicle, Elders vehicle

·  Older and differently able campers (e.g. during Elders’ gathering) may need to drive to their camp site area to off load and then remove vehicle immediately

·  Camping trailers/vans can set-up along north edge of laneway near apple trees

Camp Sites

·  Tenting is welcome throughout the grassy central meadow area

·  Recycle and remove Trash to designated area. Please be a “Leave no foot print” camper!

Respect our Neighbours

·  Do not walk on their property without permission

·  Quiet in campground after10 pm.

·  No drumming, singing after9:00 pm. (Some of our neighbours go to bed at 9!). Please help us maintain good relationships.

·  Kindness. Assist neighbouring campers as needed. Respect their privacy and space

Campfire Pit

·  Light open fire only in northwest corner of Campgound, near West bathhouse. Be sure that water hose at West bathhouse is available if needed

Cell Phone and Free Wifi

·  Free Wifi in porch area on the Community Hall

·  Cell phone use is limited to Parking Area (reception is better here too!)

·  Other times/places, please turn them off

Smoking area

·  Please use designated area – log beside the Community Garden or in parking lot

Elders Only Camping in White Pines

·  During Elders Gathering, the White Pine forest and the tent platform sites along the laneway, are reserved for our Elders and Presenters’ camping.

First Aid

·  If it is an emergency, call 911. Closest Emergency Unit is Porter Medical Center (115 Porter Dr.) in Middlebury

·  First aid kit and public phone are on Community Hall Porch

·  Sunray Peace Village/Elders Gathering does not provide medical care. You are responsible for your owner health (medications, bug repellant, epi pens, sun block, first aid supplies).

Sacred Spaces

·  No parking in access lane to Peace Stupa, nor camping in that sacred space

·  The Moon Circle, Arbors, Labyrinth, Burial Mound, and walk to stream are all Sacred spaces to be enjoyed quietly, with respect.

During Elders Gathering - Camera & Video – where, when, how

·  NO Cameras or Video, or cell cameras in the area of the Arbor. Ignoring this will result in being asked to leave the area

·  Official photographers are assigned by event organizer

·  Camera may be used on campground, community area – only by permission from subject

Liability

·  By choosing to camp, volunteer, or visit the Sunray Peace Village, campers and day visitors agree to follow the Sunray Rules of Conduct, and understand by not doing so, they can be asked to leave and any unused fees will be forfeited.

·  By choosing to camp, volunteer or visit the Sunray Peace Village, campers and day visitors release Sunray Peace Village Land Trust, Directors and Board members, and their staff and volunteers of all liability for the loss or damage to property and injury to his/her persons arising from his/her use of the facilities.

·  Please read and sign the Sunray Peace Village LIABILITY WAIVER, INDEMNIFICATION & RELEASE
